During opening statements in the murder trial against Ronald Page Wednesday, prosecutors argued that Page had “no right to arm himself” in the disagreement with his son, which resulted in the shooting death of Nicholas Ray Satcher.
Page’s defense attorneys responded that the shooting was accidental; “threatening conduct” pushed Page to “the only choice he could think of to protect himself,” they said. Read more
Judge Karen Howze ordered Ercell Overton held Wednesday pending a preliminary hearing in connection with the shooting death of 57-year-old taxi driver Solomon James Okoroh.
Tuesday morning, Okoroh suffered two gunshot wounds, one to each shoulder, and later died at Howard University Hospital. Read more
A teenager shot Monday in Northeast DC has died of his injuries, MPD reported Wednesday morning.
The teen, identified as Malik Spears, a 16-year-old from Southeast, was found Monday night shot in a hallway of a building in the 1200 block of Brentwood Road. He was transported to a hospital and died Tuesday. Read more
Judge Karen Howze found probable cause Tuesday that DeAndre Shaheed participated in the shooting death of 31-year-old Akinwole Olu Williams. Shaheed, 18, has been held pending a preliminary hearing scheduled for June 27.
According to charging documents in the case, Williams’ death may have been the result of a resisted armed robbery. Read more
A taxi driver who was shot and killed in Adams Morgan Tuesday morning has been identified as 57-year-old Solomon James Okoroh of Lanham, Md.
The driver’s name was released Tuesday afternoon by Metropolitan police, who also released the name of the man charged in connection with the shooting.
That man, 32-year-old Ercell Overton of Northwest DC, has been charged with first-degree murder in connection with Okoroh’s death. Read more
According to NBC Washington, a taxicab driver was shot and killed around 3 a.m. Tuesday morning in the Adams Morgan neighborhood of Northwest D.C. Police officers working in the area saw two men exit the taxi and then exchanged gunfire with the suspects as the two men tried to flee. Read more
MPD has released a surveillence video of a “person of interest” in the Saturday shooting death of Robert Plight.
The video shows a black male with long dreadlocks wearing blue jeans and a white t-shirt entering a convenience store, purchasing an item, and leaving.
A jury found Rashid Caviness-Bey guilty Monday of second-degree murder in connection with the 2011 shooting death of 19-year-old Osman Al-Akbar.
Jurors deliberated for two days before announcing their verdict around 4:20 p.m. Monday. Caviness-Bey was charged with first-degree premeditated murder and felony murder; second-degree murder is a lesser charge. He was also found guilty of carrying a pistol without a license. Read more
