HOMICIDE in the 1100 Block of Galloway Street, NE

(Washington)-Detectives from the Metropolitan Police Department’s Homicide Branch are investigating a fatal shooting which occurred in the 1100 block of Galloway Street, NE.

On Friday, November 12, 2010, at approximately 3:00 am, units from the Fourth District were dispatched to investigate the report of sounds of gunshots at the intersection of 12th Street and Crittenden Street, NE. Upon arrival, a canvas of the surrounding area led the units to the 1100 block of Galloway Street, NE, where they discovered the victim. The victim was unconscious, unresponsive, and found to be suffering from gunshot wounds. DC Fire and Emergency Medical Services personnel responded and transported the victim to a local area hospital. The victim succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead.

The decedent is identified as 29 year-old Keith Banks of the 300 block of Quackenbos Street, NW.

The Metropolitan Police Department currently offers a reward of up to $25,000 to anyone that provides information which leads to the arrest and conviction of the person or persons wanted for any homicide committed in the District of Columbia.

Additionally, anonymous information may be submitted to D.C. CRIME SOLVERS at 1-866-411-TIPS and to the department’s TEXT TIP LINE by text messaging 50411. If the information provided by the caller to the Crime Solvers Unit leads to an arrest and indictment, that caller will be eligible for a reward of up to $1,000.

A man was killed overnight in Northeast D.C., according to an e-mail alert from Metro Police 4th District. The email said:

“Around 3am, units received a call for a shooting in the 1100 blk of Galloway Street, NE. Upon arrival, an adult male was discovered in a wooded area suffering from an apparent gunshot wound. The male was transported to an area hospital where he was pronounced. There is a lookout for a gray SUV leaving the area. The 1100 blk of Galloway is temporarily closed to pedestrian and vehicular traffic. This case is being investigated by members of the Homicide Branch. Anyone with information is asked to call 1-888-919-CRIM(E). ”

Darrel Hendy

Meeko Carraway and Darrel Hendy were arguing the afternoon of Saturday, Sept. 24, the day that Hendy was shot several times and killed, a D.C. Superior Court arrest warrant for Carraway alleges.

Carraway, 18, is charged with murder in Hendy’s death. He is expected in court January 11, 2011 for a felony status conference.

WUSA9 reported that the apartment building outside of which Hendy was shot was locked down for four hours while police searched for suspects. Carraway was identified by four witnesses who saw him near the scene or heard the argument between Carraway and Hendy, according to court documents.Read more

Obituary and Memorial information: In addition to Thursday night’s memorial, ervices will be held Saturday, Nov. 12 at 11 a.m. at Bible Way Temple, 1100 New Jersey Ave. NW DC.

The 22 year-old man charged with killing 63-year-old Michael Washington had been in an argument with Washington and had threatened to hit him if he should call police, charging documents in the case allege.

Vernon McRae, of Southeast D.C., is charged with second-degree murder. According to court documents, Washington was knocked unconscious the night of Oct. 26, when McRae struck him and he fell to the floor hitting his head. He “was unconscious on the floor for aproxomatly thirty minutes before emergency personel were summoned to transport him to the hospital,” the affidavit states.

Washington died Nov. 1

McRae is in custody at the Central Detention Facility. His date of birth is Oct. 16, 1988. He is due in court Nov. 15 at 9:30 a.m. for a preliminary hearing and is represented by Eugene Ohm. The documents are embedded below.Read more

Fifty-four year-old Miguel Ventura was found dead of stab wounds in Northwest D.C. on Monday Nov. 8. Ventura was a resident of Lanham, Md. Metro Police reported his death.

Prince of Petworth and TBD both briefed the story.

Forty-two year-old Jinnell Barbara McQueen died Sunday Nov. 7 after being shot in Southeast D.C, Metro Police reported.

Maryland Community Newspapers reported McQueen was found suffering from a gunshot wound by officers who had responded to a call for the sound of gunshots. McQueen was a resident of Seat Pleasant, Md.

A Washington Highlands man was fatally shot on 1st Street near Atlantic Avenue Nov. 5, Metro Police report.

The victim was identified as 36-year-old Rico Matthews.
