Peter Hendy Pleads Guilty to Second-Degree Murder for Kamari Zavon Taylor Death

Peter Hendy pleaded guilty Thursday to second-degree murder in connection with the death of 4-year-old Kamari Zavon Taylor. Prosecutors dropped an initial charge of first-degree murder in exchange for the plea.

On August 5 around 2:05 p.m. police found the child unconscious in an apartment complex on the 5600 block of Nannie Helen Burroughs Avenue Northeast. He was transported to the Children’s National Medical Center where he was later pronounced dead. An autopsy revealed the cause of death to be blunt force trauma; the case was ruled a homicide. Hendy, 33, was arrested the next day and held on suspicion of first-degree murder in the child’s death.

Judge Frederick Sullivan found that there was substantial evidence Wednesday in the case against 33-year-old Michael A. Smith. Smith is suspected of taking part in a shooting that led to the death of Paul Aime Tanoh Danzo. He is charged with first-degree murder while armed and other related offenses.

Chavez Myers Pleads Guilty to First-Degree Murder In Death of Olijawon Griffin

Chavez Myers pleaded guilty Wednesday to first-degree murder while armed in connection with the stabbing death of 18-year-old Olijawon Emmanuel Griffin. In exchange, prosecutors will drop all remaining charges against Myers. At minimum, Myers will face 30 years in jail for the first-degree murder charge.

On November 17, 2012, police found Griffin inside the Woodley Park Metro Station suffering from a stab wound. He was transported to a local hospital where he later died.

Earl Johnson Sentenced to 14 Years, 3 Months in Prison for Antoinette Mitchell Murder

Judge Russell Canan sentenced Earl Johnson Tuesday to 14 years and three month in prison for the August 2012 stabbing death of 29-year-old Antoinette Mitchell.

Johnson, 41, pleaded guilty in April to voluntary manslaughter in Mitchell’s death.

Michael Smith Indicted in Murder of Paul Danzo

Michael Smith, 33, was arraigned last Friday on charges of first-degree murder while armed, and other related offenses in connection with the shooting death of 24-year-old Paul Aime Tanoh Danzo. The charges were part of a case that initially charged Smith as being an accessory to Danzo’s murder.

The case against Smith is not listed in court records, however, a spokesman for the US Attorney’s office said Smith pleaded innocent and would next appear in court Wednesday at 9:30 a.m. in front of Judge Lynn Leibovitz.

Greg Whittaker pleaded guilty Tuesday to voluntary manslaughter while armed, conspiracy to commit robbery and two related weapons charges in connection with the stabbing death of 18-year-old Olijawon Emmanuel Griffin. In exchange, prosecutors dropped initial charges, including felony murder, assault and armed robbery.

Memorial Fund Seeks Donations To Help Ridgell Children

The family of one of the victims of last week’s mass shooting at the Washington Navy Yard has established a fund to help the man’s children with college and other expenses.

Warrant Issued for Suspect in Shooting Deaths of Siblings Jamie and Jamahl Jenkins

A warrant has been issued for a suspect wanted in connection with the shooting deaths of siblings Jamie and Jamahl Jenkins, who were killed in the 5300 block of Eat Capitol Street Northeast in July.

MPD said Monday afternoon that the warrant was issued for 38-year-old Kevin Antione Walker. Police described Walker as a “black male, 5’8 in height, 195 pounds, brown eyes, black hair, and medium complexion.”
