Shooting was Self Defense, Police Sayhttp://homicidewatch.org/2013/05/02/fatal-wed-shooting-was-self-defense-police-say/<p>A shooting Wednesday morning in Northeast DC has been ruled "self defense" by police and charges against the man arrested have been dropped.</p> <p>That's according to a press release from MPD mid-day Thursday.</p> <p>In that release police said that 43-year-old <a href="http://homicidewatch.org/suspects/kenneth-brown/" >Kenneth Brown</a> is no longer facing a murder charge in the death of 35-year-old <a href="http://homicidewatch.org/victims/thomas-terrell-jamison/" >Thomas Terrell Jamison</a>.<br /> <span id="more-14575"></span><br /> Brown, police said, "may have been acting in self defense."</p> <p>Brown and Jamison were found with gunshot wounds about a block apart Wednesday morning in Northeast DC. Both were taken to local hospitals for treatment. Jamison died later that day. Brown was treated and arrested on suspicion of second-degree murder while armed. </p> <p>There is no record of a charges having been filed in the case at DC Superior Court. </p> <p>A total of <a href="http://homicidewatch.org/2012/12/28/six-homicides-this-year-closed-as-self-defense/" >six homicides</a> in 2012 were determined to have been self defense cases. </p> <p>MPD's press release is below.</p> <blockquote><p>May 2, 2013 </p> <p>No Charges in Fatal Shooting in the 1200 Block of Raum Street, NE</p> <p>(Washington, DC) — Detectives from the Metropolitan Police Department’s Homicide Branch have announced that no charges have been placed against 43-year-old Kenneth Brown in the fatal shooting of 35-year-old Thomas Terrell Jamison, which occurred yesterday in the 1200 block of Raum Street, NE. Further investigation has revealed that Kenneth Brown may have been acting in self defense.</p> <p>On Wednesday, May 1, 2013, at approximately 7:39 am, officers from the Fifth District responded to the 1200 block of Raum Street, NE for the report of a shooting. Upon arrival, they located an adult male suffering from apparent gunshot wounds. DC Fire and Emergency Medical Services personnel transported 35-year-old Thomas Terrell Jamison of Southeast, Washington, DC to a local hospital where he succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead.</p> <p>A second individual was located in the 1200 block of Simms Place, NE suffering from an apparent gunshot wound. DC Fire and Emergency Medical Services personnel transported 43 year-old Kenneth Brown of Northeast, Washington, DC, to a local hospital. Yesterday, the Department announced that Kenneth Brown was arrested and charged with Second Degree Murder While Armed in the shooting death of Thomas Terrell Jamison. Further investigation has revealed that Kenneth Brown may have been acting in self defense; therefore no charges have been placed against Mr. Brown.
