In Brief:

Columbia Heights teen Lucki Pannell was shot to death on her front porch on Sherman Avenue NW. Two men were injured in the same shooting. Pannell, a senior at Cardozo High School, will be remembered Monday with a vigil in Columbia Heights. A memorial is planned for Tuesday.

Northeast D.C. man Eddie A. Leonard Jr. was killed in a shooting in the 400 block of 24th Street NE near Anacostia Park.

MPD Detective Milton Norris was named Homicide Detective of the Year at MPD’s annual awards ceremony. According to a report in the Washington Post, Milton closed five cases in 2010, including homicides from 2006, 2007 and 2009.

A Superior Court judge has agreed to hear new evidence in a case that was “probably one of the most brutal murders that ever took place in Washington” when it happened in 1985. Christopher Turner, Kelvin Smith, Levy Rouse, Clifton Yarborough, Timothy Catlett, Charles Turner and Russell Overton were convicted in the killing of Catherine Fuller and are behind bars. According to Shawn Armbrust with the Mid-Atlantic Innocence Project, “four of the six main witnesses at trial have recanted their testimony.”

Deon Thornton pleaded guilty to a charge of manslaughter while armed in the fatal stabbing of his brother, Derrick, in Adams Morgan. Thornton could be sentenced to probation to 30 years imprisonment. Sentencing is scheduled for April.

Seventeen year old Donald Crosland turned himself in to police and admitted to shooting teen Ricardo Minger in Southeast D.C. Kevin Lamont Clark has also been charged in Minger’s death.

A noon shooting in the 2300 block of Good Hope Road, SE killed 53-year-old Anthony Lynn Willford of Southeast D.C.
