Gary Gordon, an 18-year-old D.C. man, was shot and killed in an apartment on Stanton Road SE. A 15-year-old girl was arrested and has been charged in the case. In an interview with police, she said she wasn’t aware that the gun was loaded when she pointed it at Gordon and fired the fatal shot.

The first anniversary of Jordan Howe’s shooting death was marked with a vigil in Southeast D.C. Howe’s death sparked a massive shooting on South Capitol Street a week later that killed four others. Said Chief Cathy Lanier at the vigil: “In twenty-one years of police work in the city, it was the worst thing I’ve ever seen… It’s the worst memory I’ll ever have.” See photos from the vigil here.

Justin L. Navarro, 25, was found guilty of first-degree murder while armed for the November 2009 killing of Kevin Massey. Navarro was not convicted of a hate crime, however, despite prosecutor’s arguments that Massey was killed over his sexual orientation.

William Cordova was sentenced to life in prison plus 150 years for his role in a series of crimes, including the murder of 18-year-old Edwin Ventura. The crimes were committed by the MS-13 gang in 2006 and 2007, the US Attorney’s Office said.

A mental health hearing was scheduled for Christian Taylor, accused in the killing of Li-Jen Chih and Chih’s father, Ming-Kun Chih, during a robbery at their wholesale clothing business in Northeast D.C. last June. Taylor has been indicted on six counts of first degree murder in the case, as well as armed robbery and weapons possession charges.
