Herbert Hancock Hayes Arrested in Friday Stabbing Death of John Wesley Griffin

A 40-year-old Northwest DC man has been arrested on suspicion of second-degree murder while armed in connection with the stabbing death of John Wesley Griffin.

Griffen, 42, was fatally stabbed Friday.

Herbert Hancock Hayes, also known as Herbert Grayson Hayes, was arrested Monday. He’s likely due in court Tuesday afternoon to be presented with the murder charge.

Arrest Made in Homicide
In the 1200 Block of North Capitol Street, NW

(Washington, DC)-Detectives from the Metropolitan Police Department’s Homicide Branch have announced that an arrest has been made in the stabbing homicide of John Wesley Griffin which occurred in the 1200 block of North Capitol Street, NW.

On Friday, May 18, 2012 at approximately 9:30 pm, units from the First District responded to the 1200 block of North Capitol Street, NW for the report of a stabbing. Upon their arrival, they located an adult male suffering multiple stab wounds. DC Fire and Emergency Medical Services personnel transported the victim to a local hospital where he subsequently succumbed to his wounds and was pronounced dead.

The decedent has been identified as 42 year-old John Wesley Griffin of Southeast, Washington, DC.

On Monday, May 21, 2012, members of the Capital Area Regional Fugitive Task Force arrested 40 year-old Herbert Hancock Hayes also known as Herbert Grayson Hayes of Northwest, DC, pursuant to an arrest warrant and charged him with Murder Two while Armed in the homicide of John Wesley Griffin.
