Week Ahead

Each week, Homicide Watch brings you a list of upcoming hearings in the cases we follow. All hearings are scheduled for 9:30 a.m. unless otherwise noted. To add an item to the listing, email homicidewatchdc [at] gmail.com. To see scheduled court hearings beyond next week, see our calendar.

On Monday, the Marvin Palencia trial is scheduled to resume before Judge John Ramsey Johnson. Palencia is charged with first-degree murder and related weapons offenses in connection with the shooting death of Jacobo Vazquez.

The Anthony Hatton trial is scheduled to resume before Judge Henry Green Monday morning. Hatton is charged with first-degree murder and related weapons offenses in connection with the shooting death of Tyrell Fogle.

The Jekwan Smith trial is scheduled to resume before Judge Green Monday. Smith is charged with first-degree murder in connection with the shooting death of Isaiah Sheffield.

The trial against Johnnie Harris, Stanley Moghalu and Kevin Charles is scheduled to resume before Judge Green Monday. The men are charged with first-degree murder in connection with the shooting death of Steven Curtis Moore.

On Wednesday, Antonio Jones is scheduled to be sentenced by Judge Herbert Dixon. Jones pled guilty in April to second-degree murder in connection with the 2011 shooting death of Davon Paul Gray.

Demonta Chappell is expected for a felony status conference with Judge Dixon Wednesday. Chappell is suspected of shooting and killing Stevann Moorer in October last year.

Thursday, Leon Allen Smith is scheduled for a mental health observation hearing with Judge John Ramsey Johnson at 2 p.m. Smith is suspected in the September 2012 stabbing death of Stephan Manuel Pool.

On Friday, David and Montez Warren are scheduled for a status hearing at 11:30 a.m. with Judge Ronna Beck. The Warren brothers are suspected of shooting and killing Ervin Lamont Griffin in May 2011.

Earl Johnson is scheduled to be sentenced at 11 a.m. by Judge Russell Canan Friday. Johnson pled guilty in April to voluntary manslaughter while armed in connection with the stabbing death of Antoinette Mitchell.

Ercell Overton is scheduled for a preliminary hearing with Judge Canan Friday. Overton was arrested and held earlier this month in connection with the shooting death of 57-year-old Solomon James Okoroh.

Herbert Hayes is scheduled for a status hearing Friday before Judge Canan. Hayes is suspected in the May 2012 stabbing death of John Wesley Griffin.

Steven Williams is expected to be sentenced by Judge Robert Morin at 10 a.m. Friday. Williams pled guilty in April to second-degree murder in connection with the shooting death of Hae Soon Lim.
