Toll of Early Morning Violence Unclear

Update: MPD has confirmed that just one death has resulted from Saturday morning’s violence; Anthony Sanchez died after being taken to a local hospital with gunshot wounds. MPD press officer Ariz Alali said Saturday afternoon that the victim in the Parkland Place shooting is in grave condition.

NBC Washington has posted that they have “updated” their story from this morning that three people were killed early Saturday morning to report that only one of the three people reported shot died.

NBC Washington first reported the following:

Police said an adult male was shot in the head at 330 Parkland Place. Minutes later, police responded to a second incident in the 3000 block of Martin Luther King, Jr. Avenue.

Officers found a second adult male with a gunshot wound to the face. Both victims died.

The report now reads:

Police said the man shot in the head is in grave condition and the man shot in the face is in critical condition.

WJLA reports that the person shot on Parkland Place died.

Police say a shooting in 300 block of Parkland Place near Martin Luther King Jr. Avenue left one dead.

Councilmember Jim Graham this morning on a district listserv confirmed that a separate shooting in Columbia Heights killed one juvenile early Saturday morning.

A call to MPD’s press office was not immediately returned Saturday afternoon.
