Michael Coleman Held in Stabbing Death of Candance Reed

Judge Lori Parker ordered Michael Coleman held Friday in connection with last Friday’s stabbing death of 40 year-old Candance Reed. Coleman remains held pending a preliminary hearing on December 9.

Police found Reed stabbed in the 5300 block of Georgia Avenue Northwest at around 2:15 a.m. She was transported to a local hospital where she died. On Thursday, Coleman, 36, was arrested on suspicion of second-degree murder while armed in Reed’s death.

Charging documents state that Reed was killed in an altercation outside of Macombo Lounge, a strip club, in Northwest DC.

According to charging documents, a witness told police that Reed attempted to get into the right rear passenger side of a burgundy vehicle when Coleman pushed her out of the vehicle. Reed then fell to the ground, while Coleman and another man began fighting, the witness said according to court documents.

The witness said they told Reed to get in the car, but as she tried to walk to the car she fell forward, striking the car door, documents state. The witness told police they then realized that Reed had been stabbed in the chest, court documents state.

The incident was captured on nearby surveillance cameras, documents state.

The case is scheduled for a preliminary hearing on December 9 with Judge Herbert Dixon.
