David Robinson Sentenced to 10 Months in Prison on Weapons Charges

Judge Stuart Nash sentenced David Robinson to 10 months in prison Friday in connection with the shooting death of 21-year-old Howard Ricardo Sampler.

Robinson pleaded guilty to three weapons charges in connection with Sampler’s death in April.

Mauda’Rico Proctor Remains Held in Connection with Dominic Davis Slaying

Judge Robert Morin found substantial probability Friday that Mauda’Rico Proctor participated in the shooting death of 27-year-old Dominic Anthony Davis. Proctor remains held pending a grand jury indictment.

Davis was found shot multiple times in the 500 block of 57th Street Northeast on January 14; he later died at Prince George’s County Hospital.

Joseph Chandler Released from D.C. Jail Due to Medical Conditions

Joseph Chandler, the man accused of shooting and killing 63-year-old Shirley Tucker, was released from D.C. jail Friday due to medical conditions.

Judge Herbert Dixon Jr. released Chandler into the supervisory custody of a friend of Chandler’s who volunteered to let him stay with her. Chandler’s daughters also agreed to share the responsibility of seeing that his medical needs are met.

Herbert Hayes Found Guilty of John Wesley Griffin Murder

Herbert Hayes was found guilty Friday of second-degree murder while armed for the May 2012 stabbing death of 41-year-old John Wesley Griffin.

Jurors in the case deliberated for approximately one day before delivering their verdict at around 1:20 p.m. Hayes, 40, was charged with first-degree murder while armed; second-degree murder while armed is a lesser charge.

Jury Deliberations Begin in Herbert Hayes Murder Trial

Prosecutors in the murder trial against Herbert Hayes say that John Wesley Griffin’s fatal stabbing was premeditated and deliberate, and that the evidence against Hayes as the murderer is “virtually undisputed.” Hayes’ defense attorney argues, though, that the government’s key witness is “tainted” and can’t be trusted.

Jurors heard these closing arguments Thursday morning before beginning their deliberations around 11:30 a.m.

Arik Sims Indicted in Death of Lamar Fonville

Arik Sims was arraigned Thursday on a charge of first-degree murder while armed and related weapons offenses in connection with the shooting death of 29-year-old Lamar Michael Fonville. Sims pleaded innocent to the charges and a trial is scheduled for November 18.

Fonville was shot and killed around 2:30 a.m. Sept. 30, 2012.

Friends and family of Omar Sykes gathered at Howard University Wednesday for a memorial service. Sykes, 22, was fatally shot July 4 in a robbery attempt.

On Stand, Herbert Hayes Says He Never Stabbed John Wesley Griffin

Herbert Hayes, the man on trial for stabbing and killing 41-year-old John Wesley Griffin, told jurors Wednesday that he was not responsible for Griffin’s death, and that witnesses in the trial “were tricked and coerced against me.”

I don’t know that John dude like that,” Hayes said. “I don’t know that dude to do anything like that to him.”

Hayes is charged with first-degree murder while armed in connection with Griffin’s death. On May 18, 2012, Griffin suffered four stab wounds, including two to his back; he was found in the 1200 block of North Capitol Street Northwest around 9:45 p.m.

Lloyd Bright Indicted in Death of Darryl Sweet

Lloyd Bright was arraigned Tuesday on a charge of second-degree murder in connection with the death of 61-year-old Darryl Eugene Sweet Sr. Bright pleaded innocent to the charge and a trial date has been scheduled for April 2014.
