Man Killed in Early Morning Shooting in SE DC

A shooting in Southeast DC early Saturday morning has left one man dead, NBC Washington reports.

According to a DC Alert, the shooting was reported at 2:14 a.m. in the 53OO block of E Street SE.

No lookout was given and other details weren’t immediately available.

Omar Sykes Murder a Random Encounter, Police Say

Metropolitan police believe the murder of 22-year-old Omar Sykes, a Howard University student from Northwest D.C., was the result of a random robbery gone awry.

We believe it was a random encounter,” Metropolitan Police Captain Robert Alder said at a press conference Friday. “We do not have any information that [the victims] were known to the suspects.”

Wesley Monroe Arrested in Connection with Quentin White Murder

A Northeast D.C. man has been arrested in connection with the June 22 shooting death of 28-year-old Quentin White.

White was found in the 3500 block of East Capitol Street Southeast suffering from a gunshot wound; he later died at a local hospital.

Wesley Monroe, 21, was arrested Friday by members of the Capital Area Regional Fugitive Task Force; he has been charged with first-degree murder while armed in connection with White’s death.

Asia Moore Held in Connection with Stabbing Death of Marvin Harvey

Asia Moore was ordered held Thursday on a charge of second-degree murder while armed pending a preliminary hearing scheduled for July 15, in connection with the stabbing death of 23-year-old Marvin Harvey.

Arrest documents state that on July 3 police responded to a home on Blaine St. in Northeast DC at 2:22 p.m. They found Moore, 22, with her boyfriend, Harvey, who was unconscious and laying on the basement floor.

Howard University Shooting Victim Identified as Omar Sykes

Metropolitan police have identified the victim of Thursday’s fatal shooting as 22-year-old Omar Sykes.

Sykes was found in the 700 block of Fairmont Street Northwest around 11:30 p.m. Thursday suffering from multiple gunshot wounds; he later died at the hospital.

Councilmember Jim Graham said in an email Friday morning that Sykes was a victim of an attempted robbery, and that a gun may have accidentally fired during that attempt. There is a witness, and there may be video evidence as well, Graham said.

Howard University Student Fatally Shot Thursday

Several media outlets report that a fatal shooting occurred in Northwest D.C. Thursday evening.

According to NBC Washington, around 11:30 Thursday night, two Howard University students were walking in the 700 block of Fairmont Street Northwest, when they were approached by two men who attempted to rob the students. One of the students was shot and later died at the hospital, NBC reports. Read more

Asia Moore Arrested in Connection with Stabbing Death of Marvin Harvey

A man fatally stabbed in Northeast DC Wednesday afternoon has been identified as 23 year-old Marvin Harvey; 22-year-old Asia Dontrese Moore has been charged with first-degree murder in connection with the case.

MPD identified Harvey and Moore Thursday evening.
