Johnnie Harris Pleads Innocent to Murder of Isaiah Sheffield

Johnnie Harris was arraigned last week on new charges stemming from a 24-count superseding indictment that names Harris and five other men as members of a criminal street gang called “21st and Vietnam.”

Among other crimes, the indictment alleges that Harris participated in the shooting deaths of Steven Curtis Moore and Isaiah Sheffield. Harris was charged with the murder of Moore in May 2012; the charge of killing Sheffield was added earlier this month. Harris pleaded innocent to all charges.

Sean Carter pleaded guilty Tuesday to a second-degree murder charge in the August killing of Biddley Warren.

Saturday Shooting Victim IDed as Tracy McFadden

Police have identified the man killed early Saturday morning as 44-year-old Tracy McFadden of Northeast D.C.

McFadden was found shot on the 2700 block of Georgia Avenue Northwest at 2:28 a.m., MPD says. He died at a local hospital.

Man Killed in Georgia Avenue Shooting Early Saturday Morning

A man was shot and killed on Georgia Avenue in Northwest DC early Saturday morning, WJLA and WUSA report.

WJLA reports that the shooting occurred at about 2:45 a.m, that there were no witnesses, and that the man has not yet been identified.

Dominique Bassil Sentenced to 17 Years in Stabbing Death of Boyfriend

Dominique Bassil was sentenced to 17 years in prison Friday for the stabbing death of her boyfriend, Vance Harris II following a wedding in August 2011.

Bassil was found guilty of second-degree murder in Harris’ death in November.

In a sentencing memorandum, Assistant U.S. Attorney Michelle Jackson told the court that Harris’ death was a case of domestic violence and that the case “highlights that men are victims of domestic violence just like women.”

Burnis Cole Held in Death of Raasheem Rich

Burnis Cole, the man accused in D.C.’s first homicide of 2013, appeared in court Friday afternoon to be presented with a charge of first-degree murder.

The judge in the case, Karen Howze, ruled that there was enough evidence at this stage to hold Cole in connection with the fatal stabbing of Raasheem Jamal Rich on January 10.

Probable Cause Found Against Arvel Wills in Death of Cousin, Dwayne Wills

Judge Ronna Beck found probable cause today that Arvel Wills caused the death of his cousin, Dwayne Wills, who died on June 4, 2012. Arvel was held pending indictment by a grand jury.

Wills is charged with second-degree murder; he rejected a plea offer last year that would have required him to plead guilty to involuntary manslaughter and a felony firearms possession charge. A tentative trial date is scheduled for June 3.

Colbert Found Guilty of Lesser Charge of Manslaughter

Jurors found Ellsworth Colbert guilty of manslaughter today in connection with the stabbing death of Robert Leroy Wright.

Colbert was charged with first-degree murder; manslaughter is a lesser charge. The jury also found Colbert guilty of two weapons charges.

In Opening Statements, John Bolton’s Attorney Says He Acted in Self-Defense

Opening statements in the murder case against John Bolton began Thursday with an argument from Bolton’s attorney that Bolton was acting in self-defense when he shot 41-year-old Christopher Fletcher.
