18-Year-Old Navarro Anthony Brown Killed in SE DC Shooting Tuesday


A shooting in Southeast DC early Tuesday evening killed an 18-year-old man, whom police identified as Navarro Anthony Brown.

According to MPD, officers responded to a call for a shooting in the 3200 block of 23rd Street SE and found Brown with multiple gunshot wounds. He died at a local hospital.

Marcellus Jackson, Keir Johnson Plead Innocent on 80-Count Indictment

MPD said tonight that 23-year-old Marcellus Jackson has been arrested in connection with the August 2010 shooting death of Sean Robinson.

Jackson was wanted by MPD in connection with an 80-count gang indictment unsealed last month. He was arrested in North Carolina on Dec. 20.

Court records show that he and another man named in the same indictment, Keir Johnson, were arraigned today on the charges against them. They each pleaded innocent.

Just hours after David Lee Robinson was found shot in Northeast DC Sunday, Mayor Vincent Gray took to the pulpit at an event to speak out against gun violence and told those gathered that Robinson was killed for his sneakers.

Mayor Gray: David Lee Robinson Killed for his Nike Shoes

NBC Washington reports that at a vigil in memory of gun violence victims, Mayor Vincent Gray discussed Sunday’s shooting of David Lee Robinson.

Robinson, 19, was shot for his Nike shoes, Gray said.

Sunday Morning Shooting Victim IDed as 19-year-old David Lee Robinson

A man fatally shot early Sunday morning in Northeast DC has been identified as 19 year-old David Lee Robinson, a Northwest DC man, MPD said Sunday.

According to a press release, MPD officers were responding to a call for a report of gunshots in the area of 58th and Foote streets NE when they found Robinson shot. He was taken to a hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Week in Review

A man found dead at 8 a.m. on New Years Eve was ruled the first homicide victim of 2012. Leroy Studevant was found strangled in Marvin Gaye Park. No arrests have been announced.

Howard Ricardo Sampler was fatally shot Tuesday night in Kenilworth, the fourth recent homicide int he neighrborhood. According to comments from friends and family, Sampler, 21, was good friends with Marcus Parham, who was killed in the same neighborhood in November.

John William Smith Jr., 46, was arrested on suspicion of second-degree murder while armed in connection with the stabbing death of Elaine Coleman. According to charging documents in the case, Smith was Coleman’s boyfriend; he had served time on a manslaughter charge in Baltimore before moving into Coleman’s home.

Anthony Speight, the man suspected of killing Bloomingdale man Bill Mitchell Jr,. waived his right to a preliminary hearing Friday. Charging documents state that Mitchell may have been killed in the course of a robbery for $20. Speight is due back in court Feb. 10.

Harold Proctor was ordered held in the death of Kevin Blackwell Jr. at a preliminary hearing Friday; Proctor told detectives he was one of four people who participated in the fatal revenge robbery that left Blackwell dead.

Early Sunday morning, MPD’s Sixth District Commander Robert Contee sent the following message to the community listserv:
