Calvin “Dough” Monroe Sentenced to 23 Years in Murder of Lonnie Whitted
Calvin Monroe was sentenced today to 23 years in prison for the shooting death of 27-year-old Lonnie Whitted.
Monroe, 33, pleaded guilty in in September to a charge of second-degree murder while armed in connection with the case.

Lester Wright Pleads Innocent in Shooting Death of Howard Williams
Lester Wright pleaded innocent today to a charge of premeditated first-degree murder while armed, according to court records.
Wright, 21, is charged in the shooting death of 48-year-old Howard Williams in Northeast D.C. According to charging documents, Williams, Wright, and Wright’s aunt all lived together in an apartment on 18th Place NE. An argument between Wright and the two others in the house preceded the shooting, a witness told police.

Claude Kinney Sentenced to 30 Years for Stabbing Death of Alecia Wheeler
One by one, Alecia Wheeler‘s sister pulled items out of a blue plastic shopping bag. First, a small blue lunchbox, then a pink one, another pink one, and another pink one. A borrowed Army jacket Wheeler wore, then a crumpled Mylar balloon. It read “Happy Birthday,” and had been tied to the stroller Wheeler was pushing when she was attacked and killed.
Her sister held the stroller up.
“He has destroyed the hearts of my sister’s children who witnessed the murder of their mother,” she said of Claude Kinney, standing about three feet away, shackled and wearing an orange jumpsuit. Kinney looked away from her, bitting his lower lip.
“No child should have the burden to have to go before a grand jury and talk about how they saw their dad murder their mom,” she said.

Teens Shot Near Southeast DC Schools
At Homicide Watch DC we hew close to our mission of covering homicides. Today, with incredible news of a day time shooting involving local elementary schools, we’re breaking from the criteria. Which is to say, we have no information at this point that this shooting is a homicide, however we realize that many of our readers will come to Homicide Watch DC for information about the shooting.
We will update this post as we learn more. If we receive information that this shooting has become a homicide we will add it to the database and add a new report.

DC Murder Suspect Pleads Guilty to Maryland Murder Charge
Corey Yates pleaded guilty to first-degree murder yesterday in the Dec. 2010 shooting death of Doodley Derose, a 19-year-old Glenmont man, The Gazette reports.
While the Derose case is in Maryland court, Yates, 22, is also pending trial in DC. He’s charged in the Sept. 2010 shooting death of Darrel Hendy.

Charges Enhanced in Neil Godleski Murder Case
Less than a month before the case against Eric Foreman is scheduled to go to trial, prosecutors have secured a superseding indictment enhancing two of the most serious charges in the case.
Foreman, 18, is charged in the August 2010 shooting death of Catholic University graduate student Neil Godleski. Godleski was bicycling home from his job as a waiter at a restaurant when Foreman allegedly robbed him for $60 at gunpoint in Sherman Circle. Godleski was shot several times in the course of the robbery.

“Not Guilty” Pleas in Death of Glenn Scarborough
The three men charged with the brutal and fatal beating of Glenn Scarborough have each pleaded innocent to all of the charges against them.
Terrell Wilson, Phillip Swan and Theodore Spencer appeared in court Wednesday to answer to the charges against them. Those charges include murder, kidnapping, robbery, and various weapons charges, among others.

11 Years for “Heat of Passion” Killing
Damien Pannell was sentenced today to 11 years in prison for killing 46-year-old Glenn Bailey in a parking lot fight last May.
The death, Pannell told Judge Thomas Motley when pleading guilty, was unintentional.
“He was trying to hurt someone that I loved and I kinda just lost it,” Pannell told Motley when entering his plea. “I didn’t really have time to think and realize what I was doing.”
