Christopher Reginald Williams, a 20-year-old Landover, Md. man, was arrested Thursday on suspicion of first degree murder in connection with the stabbing death of Kevin Blackwell Jr.

Columbia Heights Beating Victim IDed as Juan Antonio Paredes

UPDATED
The DC Medical Examiner has determined that a man fatally beaten with a steel pole in Columbia Heights Saturday afternoon was the victim of homicide.

On Thursday MPD identified the man as 45-year-old Juan Antonio Paredes. He died Sunday, MPD said.

MPD did not identify a suspect in the case, saying only that a 50-year-old man was arrested at the scene on suspicion of assault with intent to kill. MPD said additional charges are pending.

A spokesman for the US Attorney’s office identified the suspect as Jeffrey Mills.

Guilty Plea in Stabbing Death of Elaine Coleman

John Smith pleaded guilty this morning to one count of second-degree murder while armed in the stabbing death of Elaine Coleman.

Smith, 46, could be sentenced to a maximum of 40 years in prison, said Judge Robert Morin, who heard the case.

A man beaten with a steel pole in Columbia Heights has died of his injuries and a suspect arrested will be charged with murder, authorities said Wednesday morning.

MPD press officers said an assault was reported at 14th and Park streets Northwest at about 1:55 p.m. Saturday. The victim was beaten with a steel pole and an arrest was made.

Infant Death Investigation Press Conference this Morning

MPD said this morning that a press conference is planned at the homicide branch today to discuss an infant death investigation.

WJLA reported earlier today that an infant girl, possibly a newborn, died early Monday morning after being found abandoned in Northeast DC. She was found in the 3000 block of Channing Street NE after police received an anonymous phone call about the girl.

In brief:

A man fatally shot early last Sunday morning in Northeast DC was been identified as 19 year-old David Lee Robinson. Mayor Vincent Gray said Robinson was killed in a robbery for his Nike shoes.

Navarro Anthony Brown, 18, was killed in a shooting early Tuesday evening in Southeast DC.

Stephen Horsley, an 19-year-old Northeast DC man, was killed in a shooting on Benning Road Southeast Friday night.

Antoine Taylor was sentenced to 17 years in prison on a charge of second-degree murder while armed in the shooting death of Joshua Hopkins.

Marcellus Jackson and Keir Johnson pleaded innocent in all charges included in an 80-count gang indictment. They were presented at DC Superior Court this week on the charges after being sought by authorities since December.

Damien Pannell was sentenced to 11 years in prison for killing 46-year-old Glenn Bailey in a parking lot fight last May.

A superseding indictment enhanced two of the most serious charges against Eric Foreman, who is scheduled to go to trial for the shooting death of Catholic University student Neil Godleski in less than a month. The enhancements could mean more prison time for Foreman if he is convicted.

Corey Yates pleaded guilty in Maryland court to first-degree murder in the Dec. 2010 shooting death of Doodley Derose. Yates, 22, is also pending trial in DC. He’s charged in the Sept. 2010 shooting death of Darrel Hendy.

Claude Kinney was sentenced to 30 years in prison for the stabbing death of his estranged wife, Alecia Wheeler. The couple’s children witnessed the daytime crime which took place in a Trinidad alley.

Lester Wright pleaded innocent to a charge of premeditated first-degree murder while armed in connection with the shooting death of 48-year-old Howard Williams in Northeast D.C.

Calvin Monroe was sentenced to 23 years in prison for the shooting death of 27-year-old Lonnie Whitted.

Antonio Ramell Barnes, 20, and Earl Timothy Jackson Jr, 19, were arrested in connection with a fatal shootout in the Clay Terrace neighborhood in 2009. They are each suspected of first-degree murder while armed in the homicides of Davonta Artis and Daquarn Tibbs.

Two DC men were arrested Saturday in connection with a fatal shootout in the Clay Terrace neighborhood in 2009.

Antonio Ramell Barnes, 20, and Earl Timothy Jackson Jr, 19, are each suspected of first-degree murder while armed in the homicides of Davonta Artis and Daquarn Tibbs.

According to the Charlotte Observer, Barnes and Jackson were arrested in Charlotte. The Observer’s report includes the men’s mugshots.
