MPD today released a video (posted above) of a car believed to have picked up people responsible for fatally shooting Mico Briscoe in Novemeber in Northeast DC.
Briscoe was one of two people shot at approximately 12:41 am near Mt. Olivet Road. Read more
The sixteen-year-old suspected of taking part in a gang melee in Petworth in October has pleaded guilty to a charge of voluntary manslaughter and two counts of assault.
According to the government’s evidence, Navarette-Rivas was driving a red Jeep Liberty, which he used to intentionally strike Miguel Drullard on Oct. 16. Drullard was drug by the car as it moved forward. He suffered serious injuries, was taken to a hospital and was pronounced dead. Drullard’s pitbull was also struck by Navarette-Rivas’ vehicle. Charging documents indicate that a third person involved in the robbery has been in touch with detectives and is a witness in the case.
They also indicate that a fourth person, Wayne Antwon Jackson, is wanted in connection with the murder. An affidavit in support of an arrest warrant for Williams includes Jackson’s name, stating that there is probable cause to arrest both Williams and Jackson. Read more
A baby girl found abandoned on a Northeast DC doorstep early Monday morning died and police are investigating the circumstances of her death. MPD Chief Cathy Lanier appealed to the public for help identifying the baby’s parents.
A man beaten in Columbia Heights last Saturday died of his injuries and police classified the death a homicide this week. The man was identified as Juan Antonio Paredes. Jeffrey Mills was arrested on suspicion of assault with intent to kill in connection with the case, MPD said further charges were forthcoming.
John Smith pleaded guilty to one count of second-degree murder while armed in the stabbing death of Elaine Coleman. Smith, 46, could be sentenced to a maximum of 40 years in prison, said Judge Robert Morin, who heard the case.
Seventeen-year-old Derek Johnson was sentenced today to 14 years in prison for fatally stabbing former classmate Jamar Freeman near a Petworth playground in October.
Vasile Graure was convicted of felony murder in connection with a 2007 fire in Northwest DC that ultimately killed Vladimir Djordjevic.
Antonio Eugene Williams died on Nov. 8, 2011, after an alleged assault on Oct. 27. This week, MPD said his case has officially been ruled a homicide by the Baltimore Medical Examiner’s Office.

Williams, 40, was found unconscious in the 4500 block of Douglas Street Northeast. He was hospitalized and remained on life support until succumbing to his injuries.
MPDissued a reward poster in November calling Williams a victim of homicide. It remains unclear why he was transported to Baltimore for an autopsy.
Charging documents in a fatal assault case against Jeffrey Mills indicate that Mills may have lashed out in fear of being injured himself.
According to the documents, Mills, a street vendor, told detectives that he was approached by Juan Paredes on Saturday afternoon and that Paredes had “threatened to cut him with a machete-shaped pocket knife.” Read more
Vasile Graure was convicted today of felony murder in connection with a 2007 fire in Northwest DC that ultimately killed Vladimir Djordjevic.
Graure was previously convicted of assault with intent to kill after a jury ruled that he had poured gasoline on Djordjevic and the Good Guys club and then lit the gasoline on fire. Djordjevic was seriously injured and died in 2010.
