Hiawatha Henry Sentenced to Three Years for Death of Infant Son

Hiawatha Henry, who pleaded guilty in July to involuntary manslaughter in the death of his infant son, was sentenced to three years in prison today.

Henry was accused of first degree murder in the case, which pled out on involuntary manslaughter before Henry was indicted.

Second Guilty Plea in Death of Latisha Frazier

Laurence Hassan pleaded guilty this morning to second-degree murder in the death of 18-year-old Latisha Frazier, a Southeast DC woman believed to have been killed by a group of young people in August 2010.

Hassan, 22, is the second person to plead guilty in the case. Cinthya Proctor pleaded guilty to second-degree murder in July. Cases against four others are still pending.

Hassan is expected to be sentenced in January.

On Tuesday, Claude Kinney is expected for a preliminary hearing with Judge Gerald Fisher. Kinney is suspected of first-degree murder while armed in the shooting death of Alicia Wheeler.

Phillip Crooms is also expected for a preliminary hearing. Judge Lynn Leibovitz is expected to take the case. Crooms is suspected of felony murder in the death of Delonte Butler. Leibovitz asked prosecutors at a preliminary hearing on Aug. 12 to clarify the cause of death.

Thursday, Latonya Hall is expected for a status hearing with Judge Thomas Motley. Hall pleaded guilty in March to killing Michaeldeon Roy Talley.

On Friday Oma Crawford is expected for sentencing by Judge William Jackson. Crawford pleaded guilty in July to second-degree murder in the shooting death of Ralph Thomas.

Fight over $20 Debt led to Karen Jordan’s Death, Detective Says

Bloody glass, bloody carpet, bloddy slippers and a bloody ten-dollar bill.

That’s what detectives found at Stephanie Lawson‘s home late at night on August 27, 2011.

At a preliminary hearing Thursday, Detective Norma Horne narrowed in on that $10 bill. It was the reason, police believe, that Lawson stabbed, and killed, Karen Jordan, Horne said.

A preliminary hearing for Irving Johnson, suspected in the Columbia Heights double homicide which killed Domonique Barber and Jimmie Lee Simmons III has been postponed according to court records.

William McCorkle and Andre Clinkscale, Jr. were convicted today in a 2008 triple homicide that took place in Trinidad.

McCorkle, 26, and Clinkscale, 25, could be sentenced to life in prison.

Jewell Washington Ordered Held on Substantial Probability in Tuesday’s NE DC Stabbing

With her family in the gallery giving her support, 19-year-old Jewell Washington stood before the court this afternoon to answer to charges that she killed 45-year-old Mark Goldring yesterday in a stabbing.

Washington’s attorney entered a plea of innocent on her behalf, telling the court that there is a “viable” self-defense claim in the case.

18-Year-Old Woman Arrested in Connection with NE DC Stabbing Tuesday

An 18-year-old woman has been arrested in connection with the stabbing death of a 44-year-old man in Northeast D.C. this afternoon, MPD reports.

According to a message from Commander Andy Solberg, the man was stabbed inside a home in the 1300 block of West Virginia Avenue, NE. He and the woman were involved in an apparent domestic dispute, Solberg said.
