The Washington Post’s Matt Zapotosky looks at Prince George’s County violent crime spike and the unique appeal authorities are making to those convicted of violent crime.
Thirty-four of Prince George’s County’s most dangerous criminals sat side-by-side in black upholstered chairs at a Suitland health center one recent evening, staring suspiciously at the police commanders, prosecutors and community activists in front of them.
The murderers, robbers and carjackers had been forced to come to the meeting by their parole and probation agents. All are considered likely to strike again.
Officers will be watching closely this summer, police told the group. Those in the room who don’t stay out of trouble will go to prison.

Tiffany Barnes wrote in about her father, Anthony Willford, and submitted a poster memorial of him.

This is my father. He was killed 6 days after my 26th birthday. If you have any information please come forward. My family and I are still grieving my father’s death. Time is suppose to heal all but it doesn’t. Its two day’s before my 1st father’s day without him and all I want to know is who stole the life of a great Father, grandfather, brother, Uncle, friend and so much more.
I love you Daddy and when we find out who murdered you, you will finally rest in Peace.

A preliminary hearing in the case against Aaron Adams, accused of stabbing to death Garrett White over Memorial Day weekend, has been rescheduled for June 23.
A notice on Adams’ docket indicates that the first date the hearing was scheduled for— Friday— was in error.
A funeral service for Ralph Thomas is scheduled to begin at noon today, followed by his burial at Maryland Veterans Cemetery in Cheltenham.
Thomas’ obituary was published in the Washington Post on Tuesday and is online here.
Twenty-five-year-old Garrett White was laying on the ground outside a DC nightclub, covered in blood and clutching his abdomen when a police officer found him.
“Ace did this to me. He stabbed me,” White told the officer, who then asked what “Ace” looked like.
“If I make it through this, I will tell you,” White said.
White didn’t make it through. Just after 9 a.m. on Sunday May 29, he was pronounced dead, less than six hours after he had been stabbed.
Those details are according to charging documents filed June 10 (and posted after the jump). In them government investigators allege that “Ace” is Aaron Adams, a 25-year-old DC man with a brief criminal history of misdemeanor drug and theft charges.
