A jury yesterday convicted D.C. resident Marcus C. Silver of manslaughter while armed in the shooting death of 26-year-old Shadawnchea Gardner in the unit block of Hawaii Avenue NE on March 10, 2010.
Silver, 30, is expected in court April 22 for sentencing.
According to a news release from the United States Attorney’s Office,
According to the government’s evidence, members of the Fourth District of the Metropolitan Police Department (MPD) were called about 7:40 p.m. on March 10, 2010 to the unit block of Hawaii Avenue NE. Upon arrival, they found the victim, Shadawnchea Gardner, 26, outside an apartment building. He was suffering from a single gunshot wound to the back of the head, and died later that night.

A report from ABC7 has identified a man found dead in Northeast D.C. yesterday as “Melvin” and said that the man, whom police have not identified, was found in his home bound with duct tape and gagged. According the report, the man was last seen by neighbors Wednesday morning.

Commander Lamar Greene released the following information on the Fifth District listserve this afternoon:
The Fifth District was called to the 2300 block of 15th st NE at approximately 11am. Once on the scene officers discovered the body of an adult male inside the location suffering from what appeared to be gunshot wounds. The victims identity will be withheld pending family notification. If anyone has information relative to this crime please contact MPD immediately, 202 727 9099

Vernon McRae pleaded guilty today to involuntary manslaughter in the death of 63-year-old Michael Washington, who died after an assault on Oct. 26, 2010 at a Morris Road Southeast apartment.
McRae, 22, is due in court April 29 for sentencing.
In court documents, authorities asserted that McRae and Washington had been in an argument and McRae had threatened to hit Washington if he called police.

A 17-year-old from Southeast D.C. has been arrested and charged in the murder of Latisha Frazier, Metro Police reported this evening.
Lanee Bell is the sixth person arrested in the case. Two other female teens are also among those arrested. According to police, Bell was arrested on suspicion of Felony Murder (Kidnapping) and charged as an adult in the case, pursuant to Title 16.

The Washington Post is reporting that a second suspect injured in a shoot-out with police Sunday during a botched home invasion robbery in Brookland has died.
Reports the Post:
Davon Sealy, 19, of Gaithersburg, died Monday morning at an area hospital. Akeem Jamaal Cayo, 21, died at the scene on Sunday.
This afternoon Councilman Harry Thomas sent out the following press release about the incident:

Sometime before 7:41 p.m. Friday, court documents say, 21-year-old Deon Thornton began a fight with his older brother, Derrick, in the lobby of the Adams Morgan apartment building where they both lived.
A witness to the assault stepped in between the men and tried to separate them, but Deon Thornton allegedly reached around the witness to stab his brother multiple times with a knife, and the witness was flung to the ground.
Deon Thornton will appear in court on Feb. 23 for a preliminary hearing, accused of stabbing his brother Derrick to death.Read more
According to multiple media reports this morning, one person was killed and another seriously injured in a shoot-out with Metro Police in a botched robbery attempt near Catholic University last night. Neither person has been identified by police.
In a message on the Fifth District Listserve Commander Lamar Greene wrote:
On February 13, 2011 at approximately 2230 hours Fifth District units were dispatched to the 1000 block of Irving street ne for masked subjects entering a home, burglary in the first degree. Officers arrived almost immediately and confirmed a home invasion, officers surrounded the home when suddenly the suspects began to exit the house from the rear while firing weapons at the officers, the officers while in fear for their lives returned fire striking the suspects. Two of the suspects were transported to area hospitals, another suspect was taken into custody as well. All three suspects will be examined in relation to other crimes in the area.
