NW DC Man Arrested in Shooting Death of Andre Wilson

Twenty-two-year-old Ahmad Robertson-Bey of Northwest, DC was arrested Tuesday on suspicion of second-degree murder while armed in connection with the shooting death of Andre Wilson.

On June 6, Wilson was found in the 1100 block of 1st Place Northwest around 3:30 a.m. suffering from gunshot wounds; he later died at a local hospital.

In brief:

Miriam Carey, 34, died following a car chase and police shooting near the U.S. Capitol Thursday afternoon.

Dietrich Baker was sentenced to 23 years in prison for the April 2012 death of 22-year-old James Ray Sherrod.

Judge Ronna Beck found probable cause Friday in the case against Stefon Kirkpatrick. Prosecutors have charged Kirkpatrick with stabbing and killing his 22-year-old girlfriend, Julisa Brittney Washington on July 29, 2013. Kirkpatrick remains held pending a grand jury investigation.

Judge Karen Howze ruled there was enough evidence to hold William Hogan accountable for the September shooting death of 21-year-old Robert Spencer.

Stanley Moghalu was found innocent of one count of conspiracy in connection with the December 2011 death of 36-year-old Steven Moore. Jurors have been deliberating in the “21st and Vietnam” murder trial since Aug. 20, reaching several partial verdicts.

Judge Howze ordered Robert Crowder and Rico Carr held in connection with the stabbing death of 19-year-old Kelvin Willis. Crowder and Carr are suspected, along with Ladonte Hawkins, of first-degree murder in Willis’ death.

Grant Johnson stood trial for the May 2012 death of Ricardo Lancaster whose brother, Jeremiah, was known to be Johnson’s best friend. Lancaster’s mother testified about their close family-like relationship. Johnson is charged with first-degree murder while armed, among many other charges. The trial is expected to continue this week.

Dietrich Baker Sentenced to 23 Years for James Sherrod Murder

Judge Herbert Dixon sentenced Dietrich Baker to 23 years in prison Friday for the April 2012 death of 22-year-old James Ray Sherrod.

According to court documents, on April 28, 2012, around 1:40 p.m. police found Sherrod suffering from multiple gunshot wounds at the 700 block of Kenilworth Terrace NE near a bus stop. Sherrod was taken to a local hospital where he died.

At Stefon Kirkpatrick’s Preliminary Hearing Detective Describes Domestic Argument Before Fatal Stabbing

Judge Ronna Beck found probable cause Friday in the case against Stefon Kirkpatrick. Prosecutors have charged Kirkpatrick with stabbing and killing his 22-year-old girlfriend, Julisa Brittney Washington. Kirkpatrick is held pending a grand jury investigation.

Police found Washington on July 29 around 10:22 a.m. in an alley on the 400 block of Brandywine Street Southeast suffering from an apparent stab wound. Medical services arrived and declared Washington dead on scene. Kirkpatrick, 23, was arrested at the scene of the crime and charged with second-degree murder while armed for Washington’s death.

Stanley Moghalu Found Innocent of Conspiracy Charge in Steven Moore Death

Jurors in the “21st and Vietnam” murder trial reached another partial verdict Thursday, finding Stanley Moghalu innocent of one count of conspiracy in connection with the December 2011 shooting death of 36-year-old Steven Moore.

The verdict is the fifth in the case; jurors have been deliberating since Aug. 20.

Judge Karen Howze ordered Rico Carr and Robert Crowder held Thursday pending a preliminary hearing on October 15. They are suspected of participating in the 2010 stabbing death of 19-year-old Kelvin Jamal Willis. The two men remain held pending a preliminary hearing October 15.

Links Roundup: Capitol Hill Shooting

Shots were fired at the U.S. Capitol today at about 2:19 p.m. Breaking news reports indicate that one woman, being called a “suspect,” is dead.

Reports WJLA:

The incident reportedly started when an unidentified woman tried to drive through a barricade at the White House. She had a baby in the back seat of her vehicle. The woman fled the area and ended up at the Capitol, where she tried to drive through another barricade.
Authorities opened fire on the vehicle, killing the woman, authorities say.

Reports WUSA:

The Senate’s Sergeant at Arms, Terrance Gainer, says, “There are reports of injuries.” FBI agents headed to the scene.

CNN quotes Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid as saying there has been “one injury.”

Bob Orr of CBS said a number of sources say U.S. Capitol shooting began with a short car chase. The incident began with traffic pursuit-then driver fled;shots then fired in vicinity of Capitol, according to CBS.

Reports MyFoxDC:

As a warning was sounded, the House abruptly went into recess and lawmakers left the chamber floor. The House had just finished approving legislation aimed at partly lifting the government shutdown by paying National Guard and Reserve members.

People standing outside the Supreme Court across the street from Congress were hurried into the court building by authorities.

At Start of Trial, Mother Testifies About Family Relationship with Man Charged with Killing her Son

In court on Wednesday, Iris Moore calmly recalled Grant Johnson, on trial for killing her son, as the boy “who grew up with my kids down the street.”

Johnson was part of the family, Moore said, along with her sons Jeremiah and Ricardo.

But Ricardo is now dead and Johnson, who called Moore “mom” and Jeremiah his best friend, is standing trial charged with murder. Prosecutors say he killed Ricardo Lancaster, “for a couple hundred dollars and a cell phone.”

Johnson is charged with first-degree murder while armed, first-degree premeditated murder, armed robbery, possession of a firearm during a crime of violence, unlawful possession of a firearm and carrying a pistol outside a home or business in connection with Lancaster’s death.

Opening statements were heard in the case Wednesday.
