Capitol Heights Man Dead After DC Stabbing



A 26-year old Capitol Heights man died yesterday following a stabbing early Tuesday morning.

The man, Dwight Gaiter, was found stabbed at approximately 12:15 am Tuesday in the 400 Block of 56th Street, NE. He died of his injuries early Wednesday evening, MPD said.

Homicide: 400 Block of 56th Street, NE

(Washington, DC)-Detectives from the Metropolitan Police Department’s Homicide Branch are investigating the fatal stabbing which occurred in the 400 block of 56th Street, NE.

On Tuesday, August 9, 2011, at approximately 12:15 am, units from the Sixth District responded to the 400 block of 56th Street, NE., to investigate the report of a stabbing. Upon their arrival, they found a male victim suffering from an apparent stab wound. Personnel from the DC Fire and Emergency Medical Services arrived on the scene and transported the victim to an area hospital where he was being treated for his injuries. On August 10, 2011 at approximately 6:30 pm., the victim succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead.

The victim has been identified as 26-year old Dwight Gaiter of Capitol Heights, MD

The Metropolitan Police Department currently offers a reward of up to $25,000 to anyone that provides information which leads to the arrest and conviction of the person or persons wanted for any homicide committed in the District of Columbia.

If the information provided by the caller to the Crime Solvers Unit leads to an arrest and indictment, that caller will be eligible for a reward of up to $1,000.
