In brief:

US Marine Michael Poth was presented with a charge of second-degree murder in the stabbing death of fellow Marine Philip Bushong.

The seven men convicted of the brutal 1984 H Street murder of Catherine Fuller were in court Monday, the first day of a hearing on new evidence which they hope may set them free.

Gary Dederichs, a 66-year-old nurse visiting from Denver, Colo., was found unconscious in a Petworth alley Tuesday and was pronounced dead a few hours later. Police believe he is part of a string of bludgeoning attacks in that neighborhood, in which four others have been injured. Michael Davis, 19, has been arrested on suspicion in two of those attacks and charged with assault with intent to kill.

Meeko Carraway was sentenced to 25 years in prison for his role in the shooting death of 29-year-old Darrel Hendy.

Albrecht Muth has been ruled incompetent to stand trial, but a mental health report leaves open the possibility that he could be ready to stand trial in October. Muth is accused of killing his wife, 91-year-old Viola Drath.

A judge found substantial probability that Raymond Faunteroy, 26, killed 19-year-old Derrick Ragland in December 2011. Police believe Faunteroy shot Ragland as revenge for robbing him days earlier.

The South Capitol trial has gone to the jury. Five men are accused in the mass shooting that left five others—all under age 20—dead in March 2010.

Rickey Pharr was sentenced to 40 years in prison for the shooting death ofAngelo Jones in Clay Terrace in 2010.

A shooting inside a Kenilworth Terrace apartment killed a man Saturday.

A man was shot and killed at about 1:30 Sunday morning in Northeast DC. The victim has not been identified.
