2011 Shooting Victim Dies, Ruled Homicide

Jonathan Alonzo Woods died Wednesday from a gunshot wound he sustained nearly two years ago. His case is the fifth D.C. homicide in 2013.

Woods, 22, was shot on April 4, 2011, in the 400 block of Burbank Street Southeast. He was at a nursing home in Prince George’s County, Md., when he died.

2011 Shooting Now Ruled Homicide: 400 Block of Burbank Street, SE

(Washington, DC)-Detectives from the Metropolitan Police Department’s Homicide Branch are investigating a shooting which occurred on Monday, April 4, 2011 in the 400 block of Burbank Street, SE, which has resulted in a fatality.

On Monday, April 4, 2011 at approximately 10:30 pm, units from the Sixth District responded to the 400 block of Burbank Street, SE for the report of a shooting. Upon arrival, they located an adult male in a vehicle suffering from apparent gunshot wounds. DC Fire and Emergency Medical Services transported the victim to a local hospital, where he was admitted in critical condition.

On Wednesday, January 30, 2013, the victim succumbed to his injuries and died while in a nursing home in Prince George’s County, Maryland. On Thursday, January 31, 2013, an autopsy was conducted on the remains of the decedent at the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner for the State of Maryland, in Baltimore, Maryland. Based on the injuries of the decedent, the death was determined to be a homicide.

The decedent is identified as 22-year-old Jonathan Alonzo Woods of Southeast, DC.

The Metropolitan Police Department currently offers a reward of up to $25,000 to anyone that provides information which leads to the arrest and conviction of the person or persons wanted for any homicide committed in the District of Columbia.
