Week Ahead

Each week, Homicide Watch brings you a list of upcoming hearings in the cases we follow. All hearings are scheduled for 9:30 a.m. unless otherwise noted. To add an item to the listing, email homicidewatchdc [at] gmail.com. To see scheduled court hearings beyond next week, see our calendar.

On Monday,
Jurors are expected to begin deliberating in the case charging Keir Johnson and Lester Williams with the shooting death of Jamal Coates.

The trial of David and Montez Warren will continue with jury deliberations. Prosecutors charged the brothers with 14 charges including first-degree murder, kidnapping while armed, and related weapons offenses in connection with the shooting death of Ervin Lamont Griffin in May 2011.

The second trial of James Sandidge, charged in the shooting death of Keenan Jerel Lee is scheduled to begin before Judge Lynn Leibovitz. Jurors in Sandidge’s first trial were unable to decide if Sandidge was guilty of first-degree murder in connection with Lee’s death.

Donte Graves is scheduled for a trial readiness hearing before Judge Russell Canan. Graves is charged with second-degree murder, armed robbery and five related weapons offenses in connection with the shooting death of 22-year-old Tyrone Joyner.

Paul Jefferies is scheduled for a felony status conference at 11:00 a.m. where his attorney is expected to argue for a less restrictive detention before Judge Russell Canan. Jefferies has been held since December 2013 in connection with the beating death of 24-year-old Awele Olisemeka in September 2013.

Dwayne Hilton is scheduled for a status hearing before Judge Rhonda Winston. Hilton is charged with first-degree premeditated murder while armed, assault with intent to kill while armed, and several related weapons offenses in connection with the shooting death of 18-year-old Mico Briscoe.

On Thursday,
David Washington is scheduled for a preliminary hearing at 10:00 a.m. before Judge Russell Canan. Washington is suspected of first-degree murder in connection with the shooting death of 18-year-old Deangelo Gatling on January 12.

Howard Bruce Randolph is scheduled to return to court for a status hearing before Judge Russell Canan. Randolph is suspected of involuntary manslaughter in connection with the blunt force death of Rayshawn Hailstock in June 2014. Prosecutors believe that Hailstock died after a single punch from Randolph knocked him unconscious and he fell to the sidewalk.

On Friday,
Anthony Williams, 16, is scheduled for a felony status conference at 10:30 a.m. before Judge John Ramsey Johnson. Williams is suspected of second-degree murder in connection with the shooting death of James Edward Booker.

Claire Rice is scheduled for a trial readiness hearing before Judge Rhonda Winston. Rice is charged with first-degree murder in connection with the shooting death of her cousin Anthony Garland Rice.

Jekwan Smith and Johnnie Harris are scheduled for a status hearing at 2:00 p.m. before Judge Lynn Leibovitz. Smith and Harris are charged with the shooting death of unable to reach a verdict on these charges.

Joshua Andrews is scheduled for a trial readiness hearing at 10:00 a.m. before Judge Rhonda Winston. Andrews is charged with first-degree murder in connection with the June 2010 shooting death of Darond Alonte Lucas, but in November 2013, jurors could not reach a verdict for his charges.

Kevin Walker is scheduled for a felony status conference before Judge Russell Canan. Walker is suspected of first-degree murder in the shooting death of the siblings Jamie and Jamahl Jenkins. He awaits an indictment in the case.

Ladonte Hawkins, Rico Carr, and Robert Crowder are scheduled for a felony status hearing before Judge Rhonda Winston. The men are suspected of the stabbing death of Kelvin Jamal Willis.

Marvin Moore is scheduled for sentencing at 12:00 p.m. before Judge Russell Canan. Moore pleaded guilty to voluntary manslaughter in connection with the stabbing death of Timothy Benjamin, but sought to withdraw his guilty plea in January because he was dissatisfied with his attorney. At that time, Judge Canan delayed the sentencing to see if the dissatisfaction could be resolved.

Rasdavid Lagarde is scheduled for a preliminary hearing before Judge Lynn Leibovitz. Lagarde is suspected of first-degree murder in connection with the shooting death of Omar Sykes. He has been held since October 2013.
