Marc Dancy’s 2011 Death Ruled a Homicide, Melvin Linkins Arrested

The death of a Maryland man which occurred more than two years ago has been ruled a homicide and a suspect has been arrested.

Marc Emilio Dancy, 37, was found Jan. 23, 2011, unconscious in the 3000 block of 7th Street Northeast. He had suffered blunt force trauma to his head and chest. Dancy’s manner of death was initially ruled as undetermined, but further investigation revealed that he suffered injuries during an altercation with another person.

Police, Medical Examiner Investigating Death of Woman in Southeast DC

The death of a woman found unconscious and unresponsive in Southeast DC Wednesday morning is under investigation.

The case has not been ruled a homicide; such a determination will be made by the medical examiner pending an autopsy.

Mistrial Declared in James Sandidge Murder Case

Judge Lynn Leibovitz declared a mistrial Wednesday in the case against James Sandidge, after the jury notified the court for the second time that they were deadlocked.

Sandidge is charged with first-degree murder in connection with the shooting death of Keenan Jerel Lee in October 2011.

The jury has deliberated since July 24. During deliberations, jurors expressed concerns about their contact with other observers in the case believed to be family members of either Sandidge or Lee. On Wednesday, the jury foreperson told the court that the jury had again reached an impasse, though eleven jurors were prepared to find Sandidge guilty of manslaughter.

Shawn Lewis Pleads Guilty in Douglas Farley Murder

Shawn Lewis pleaded guilty to second-degree murder on Wednesday in connection with the death of 38-year-old Douglas Farley. In exchange, prosecutors agreed to seek a sentence of 16 to 24 years. The maximum sentence for second-degree murder is 40 years.

Lewis will be sentenced in October.

Stefon Kirkpatrick Held in Connection with Death of Julisa Washington

Judge Lori Parker found substantial probability Tuesday that Stefon Kirkpatrick stabbed and killed 22-year-old Julisa Brittney Washington. Kirkpatrick remains held pending a preliminary hearing scheduled August 30.

Washington was found lying in an alley in the 400 block of Brandywine Street Southeast around 10:20 a.m. Monday. She had suffered a stab wound to the neck, which perforated her jugular, and was pronounced dead at the scene.

Mark Anthony Coates Pleads Guilty in Connection with Leroy Studevant Murder

Mark Anthony Coates, one of two suspects arrested in connection with the 2011 strangulation death of 56-year-old Leroy Studevant, pleaded guilty Tuesday to second-degree murder while armed.

Stefon Kirkpatrick Arrested in Monday Stabbing Death of Julisa Brittney Washington

A woman found fatally stabbed in Southeast mid-morning Monday has been identified as 22-year-old Julisa Brittney Washington.

Police have arrested 23-year-old Stefon Kirkpatrick on suspicion of second-degree murder while armed in connection with Washington’s death.

These two street shrines are located in the 300 block of Ridge Road Southeast in memory of Eric Leeper, Anthony Chase, and siblings Jamie and Jamahl Jenkins.
