Ariston Jamal Dickson Charged in Murder of Robert Lesueur

Ariston Jamal Dickson was ordered held on a second-degree murder charge Wednesday in the shooting death of Robert Lesueur.

Charging documents in the case allege that the night he was killed Lesueur charged into his ex-girlfriend’s apartment and threatened her. Dickson shot him inside the apartment, the documents allege. Read more

In Trial, Prosecutors Describe Vance Harris’s Last Moments Alive

In the first full day of testimony in the murder case against Dominique Bassil, prosecutors focused on Vance Harris’s last moments alive.

Harris, 28, was fatally stabbed in Southeast D.C. on Aug. 13, 2011. Bassil, Harris’s girlfriend, has pleaded innocent by reason of self-defense to the second-degree murder charge against her.

In testimony Wednesday, witnesses described hearing a door slam shut, before hearing footsteps run down the stairs of Bassil’s apartment building on the morning of Aug. 13. Minutes later witnesses heard someone run back up the stairs and bang on Bassil’s apartment door.

Oh, you gonna lock me out,” a witness said Harris yelled.

A few minutes later Harris knocked on a neighbor’s door seeking assistance.

The neighbor opened the door, saw that Harris was bleeding, then closed the door fearing that someone was chasing Harris. Harris put his back against the neighbor’s door and slid to the floor; the neighbor yelled to his girlfriend to call 911.

Authorities Rule Aug. 14 Death a Homicide-Suicide

Two men who died in August in a Columbia Heights apartment suffered from a toxic combination of a drug used to treat seizures and another sedative, in what authorities said Wednesday was a homicide-suicide.

Police believe Shimelis Yegazu, 38, of Aurora, Colo., killed Mesfin Nega, 35, of Northwest D.C., with gabapentin, an anti-convulsant, and pentobarbital, a barbiturate, before taking his own life, MPD Spokeswoman Gwendolyn Crump said. (Note: An obituary for Nega lists his age as 37.)

Nega was pronounced dead on the scene by the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner. Yegaza was taken to an area hospital where he died on Aug. 19.

Ariston Jamal Dickson Arrested in Connection with Shooting Death of Robert Lesueur

Ariston Jamal Dickson, 21, was arrested Tuesday evening on suspicion of second-degree murder in the shooting death of Robert Maurice Lesueur.

Lesueur was shot Monday at the 1700 block of 27th Street. He died later at the hospital.

Dickson will likely be presented with the charge at DC Superior Court later today.

Murder Trial Begins Against Dominique Bassil in Death of Vance Harris

Vance Harris The trial began Tuesday in the case against Dominique Bassil, who has been charged with second-degree murder in the stabbing death of her boyfriend, Vance Harris II.

In opening arguments, both sides made clear that the case will revolve around the question of whether or not Bassil was acting in self-defense when she stabbed Harris in their Southeast D.C. apartment in the early morning of Aug. 13, 2011.

This case is not a whodunnit,” Assistant U.S. Attorney Michele Jackson said during her opening statement. “It’s not a James Patterson novel. This case is about self-defense. Was the defendant acting out of self-defense? And the answer is: No.” Read more

Lamonte Hill Held in Murder of Brian Bloomfield

A 22-year-old D.C. man who is suspected in the June murder of Brian Bloomfield has been arrested in South Carolina and brought to Washington, D.C., where he is being held without bond pending a grand jury investigation.

Lamonte “Nick” Hill was arrested on Aug. 10 in Columbia, S.C., on suspicion of shooting and stabbing Bloomfield. He was presented in D.C. Superior Court on Aug. 30. Read more

Earl Johnson Arrested in Stabbing Death of Ex-Girlfriend’s Daughter

Earl Johnson, 40, was arrested in August on suspicion of fatally stabbing his ex-girlfriend’s daughter, Antoinette Mitchell. Johnson is awaiting a possible grand jury indictment.

According to charging documents, Johnson barged into Mitchell’s apartment in the 3200 block of 13th Street Southeast shortly after midnight on Aug. 22 and began arguing with her mother, who had called him earlier that evening to break up with him.

Antoinette Mitchell, 29, who was sleeping in the apartment at the time, was awakened by the arguing and approached Johnson and asked him to leave. According to charging documents, Johnson left the apartment and Mitchell grabbed an iron and followed him down the stairs toward the front door of the apartment building. Read more

Robert Lesueur Identified as Victim of Monday Shooting

Police have identified the victim of a fatal shooting in Southeast D.C. as 23-year-old Robert Maurice Lesueur of Northeast D.C.

Lesueur was shot about 1:33 a.m. Monday in the 1700 block of 27th Street Southeast. He was transported to an area hospital where he died.

The Washington Post reports that the incident is believed to have been a domestic altercation.

Kevon Austin Held in Murder of Gregory Troxler

Kevon Austin, an 18-year-old D.C. resident also known as “K-man” or “Caveman,” was charged Monday in connection with the Oct. 10 murder of Gregory Troxler.

Judge Karen Howze found that there was probable cause and ruled that Austin is a danger to the community. She ordered him held without bail.

Charging documents allege that Austin shot Troxler five times in his head, chest, buttocks and forearm, about 3:51 p.m. on Oct. 10., in an alley off of the 1100 block of 8th Street Northeast. Read more

Jury Finds Three Men Guilty in Murder of Glenn Scarborough

A jury today found Terrell Wilson, Phillip Swan and Theodore “Reggie” Spencer guilty of multiple charges including murder, conspiracy, burglary, and kidnapping in the gruesome killing of Glenn Scarborough in June 2011.

According to court testimony, the three men entered Scarborough’s home with hospital gloves and duct tape. They kicked and punched him repeatedly before strangling him with a belt, stabbing him and suffocating him. The medical examiner determined that Scarborough died of strangulation and asphyxiation.
