Juror Accused of Bias After Guilty Verdict for Charles Coates

A jury last month found Charles Monroe Coates guilty of second-degree murder and three related weapons charges in the February 2011 shooting death of his cousin, Eddie A. Leonard Jr.

A hearing next week, though, to look into allegations that one of the jurors may have been biased may give Coates the chance for a new trial.

Kevon Austin Arrested in Death of Gregory Darnell Troxler

An 18-year-old DC man wanted in connection with the shooting death of Gregory Darnell Troxler was arrested Saturday during a traffic stop, MPD said Saturday evening.

The suspect, Kevon Austin, is suspected of second-degree murder while armed.

Troxler was found shot on Oct. 10 just before 4 p.m. in the 1100 block of 8th Street Northeast.

Prosecutors Allege Teen Was Sexually Abused Before Her Murder

Robert Carter is accused of killing his 13-year-old daughter Angel Morse on Oct. 29, 2010, before fleeing the family home in Northwest Washington, carjacking a MetroAccess vehicle and crashing in Prince George’s County.

But prosecutors now say that Carter may have also been sexually abusing Morse and they are seeking to introduce evidence of abuse at trial.

Michael Marshall Charged in Murder of Antonio Headspeth

A preliminary hearing for Michael Marshall, suspected in the murder of Antonio Headspeth, was delayed today after prosecutors and defense attorneys asked the court for more time to conduct investigations and possibly discuss a plea offer.

Marshall, 25, was arrested Oct. 1 in connection with Headspeth’s death. Headspeth was found dead Oct. 17, 2011 by MPD officers. His body was lying against a chain-linked fence in the 1100 block of Stevens Road in Southeast D.C. Around him were 13 .40 caliber shell casings and two bullet fragments, according to charging documents in the case.

On Monday, Dominique Bassil is expected for a jury trial in front of Judge Robert Morin beginning at 9:30 a.m. Bassil is suspected of second-degree murder in the Aug. 13, 2011, stabbing death of her boyfriend, Vance Darnell Harris II.

On Thursday, Christopher Williams, Harold Proctor, and Wayne Jackson are scheduled for a status hearing with Judge Beck. The men are charged with first-degree murder in connection with the stabbing death of Kevin Blackwell Jr.

Friday, Anthony Hatton, Jekwan Smith, Johnnie Harris, Kevin Charles and Stanley Moghalu are scheduled for a trail readiness hearing with Judge Thomas Motley at 3:00 p.m. The men are charged in connection with the “21st and Vietnam” killings.

Cydrisse Marcha-Marie Alvin is scheduled for a felony status conference with Judge Beck, Friday. Alvin is suspected of stabbing and killing her neighbor, Amber Kent, this past June.

David and Montez Warren are scheduled for a status hearing at noon with Judge Beck, Friday. The brothers are suspected of felony murder in the May 13, 2011, shooting death of Ervin Lamont Griffin.

Eric Jerome Payne is scheduled for a status hearing Friday at 11:30 a.m. with Judge Morin. Payne is suspected of first-degree murder for his participation in the stabbing death of Charles Hicks.

On Friday, Felicia Jones is scheduled for a status hearing with Judge William Jackson. Jones has been charged with second-degree murder in the stabbing death of Jodie Ward.

Jamar George is scheduled for a felony status conference, Friday, with Judge Jackson. George is suspected of first-degree murder in connection with the shooting death of Ronnie Speight.

Friday, Marc Tapp is scheduled for a status hearing with Judge Russell Canan. Tapp is suspected in the 2011 murder of 19-year-old Jermaine Anderson.

Quindetta Cosby is expected for a preliminary hearing with Judge Motley, Friday. Cosby is charged with second-degree murder in the stabbing death of Paul Lawrence Morris.

Maurice Leo Hawkins Pleads Innocent in Murder of Barbara Lloyd

A grand jury has indicted Maurice Leo Hawkins on a charge of first-degree murder for the 2011 death of Barbara Lloyd.

The indictment alleges that Hawkins fatally stabbed Lloyd, a homeless Baltimore woman, with premeditated malice Aug. 8, 2011. Officers found her body near the Old Post Office Pavilion, less than a mile from the White House, at 6:20 a.m. that day.

Harold Proctor, Christopher Williams, and Wayne Jackson Indicted in “Revenge” Stabbing Death of Kevin Blackwell Jr.

A grand jury has charged Harold Proctor, Christopher Williams and Wayne Jackson with first-degree murder in connection with the stabbing death of Kevin Blackwell Jr.

The indictment, issued in August, also charges the men with aggravating circumstances — which could carry an additional penalty if they are convicted of murder.
