Guilty Plea in Stabbing Death of Alicia Wheeler

Claude Kinney pleaded guilty this morning to first degree murder in the fatal stabbing of Alicia Wheeler, his estranged wife.

In exchange for the plea, the government agreed to not seek a sentence of more than 30 years, the minimum charge in a first-degree murder case.

Shorted Fare, Arguement over Heat and Music, May Have Led to Cab Driver’s Shooting Death

A Maryland cab driver may have been killed over a shorted seventy-five cents.

That’s according to court documents charging Rashad Terrell Slye with first-degree murder. Slye, 20, who appeared in court Monday afternoon, was ordered held pending a preliminary hearing in the case.

Prosecutors allege that Slye fatally shot cab driver Domingo Ezirike on Saturday.

Medical Examiner Says Shooting and Fire Both Contributed to Delonte Butler’s Death

Phillip Crooms was ordered held today after Judge Lynn Leibovitz found probable cause to believe that Crooms was involved in lighting a fire that contributed to the death of Delonte Butler in Sept. 2010.

A preliminary hearing was begun in early August, but only concluded today with testimony from Dr. Lois Goslinoski, a DC medical examiner.

Drug Debt May Have Led to Jawan Parker’s Fatal Stabbing

A drug debt may have led to Jawan Parker‘s death Oct. 16, charging documents in the case against Tarkeyshia Brown allege.

Brown appeared in court Saturday to be presented with a charge of first-degree murder while armed.

A case initially described as a homicide has been charged as an assault and removed from the year’s homicide total while DC’s Medical Examiner works to determine a cause of death.

Jodie Ward was found unconscious in a child’s bedroom in a home in Southeast DC late Thursday night. According to charging documents, a knife was protruding from his left ear.

Derek Johnson Held in Stabbing Death of Jamar Freeman

Seventeen-year-old Derek Johnson was ordered held today after Judge Robert Richter found “substantial probability” to Johnson killed Jamar Freeman in a stabbing earlier this month.

Obviously there are various discrepancies [in witness statements], but given the statements of the eyewitnesses I find substantial probability; Mr Johnson had a motive,” Richter said.

The Washington Post has details on a fatal shooting that took place near Howard University Saturday night, killing 20-year-old Keenan Jerel Lee.

Shortly after 10 p.m. that night, Keenan Jerel Lee, 20, was fatally shot on Georgia Avenue NW near W Street. Lee, of Capitol Heights, was involved in an altercation on the street before the shooting, said D.C. Council member Jim Graham (D-Ward 1) and a law enforcement source.
