In crime news:

Wyatt Earp Robinson was shot to death last Sunday on Minnesota Avenue in Northeast D.C. Ricardo Mitchell was arrested on suspicion of first-degree murder while armed in connection with the case. At his first court appearance this week, Mitchell was ordered held pending a preliminary hearing. Fox5 reported that Mitchell’s girlfriend, a DC police officer, witnessed the shooting and may face charges for not taking action and lying to investigators about what she saw.

Leonard Bigelow was shot to death in Northeast D.C. Friday night; Brandon Andrews was arrested on suspicion of second-degree murder while armed in connection with the case. Authorities said the shooting took place during a domestic disagreement.

Karen Johnson was fatally stabbed in Northeast Saturday night; Stephanie Lawson was arrested on suspicion of second-degree murder in connection with the case.

Remembering Wyatt Earp Robinson Jr.

This post and photo were submitted today by the family of Wyatt Earp Robinson Jr.

This is Wyatt, his Fiance Derrica Borum and their daughter Janiya Borum. His other four kids Deante Green, Amesha Green, DeMarco Anthony, and Aniya Manesse are also in the picture. The other child is his Fiance’s niece.

Robinson was fatally shot Aug. 21 on Minnesota Ave. Northeast. Ricardo Mitchell was arrested in connection with his death.

Two Homicides in 24 Hours a “Cause for Concern,” 1D Commander Says

MPD’s First District Commander Danny Hickson sent a message today about the two homicides that took place within 24 hours in 1D this weekend.

He wrote:

This weekend the First District experienced two homicide within 24 hours; the first occurred Friday night in the 1300 block of Emerald St NE and the second occurred Saturday night in the 400 block of 16th St NE. I am sure that this unusual occurrence is a cause of concern for members of the community, as it is for us. Both of these offenses were closed and we must ensure that we don’t jeopardize their successful prosecution. Read more

In Northeast DC, One Woman Dead, another Arrested, in Stabbing


UPDATED MPD reports that one woman was fatally stabbed and another arrested in connection with the crime this weekend in Northeast D.C.

According to a message from MPD, 49-year-old Karen Jordan was found stabbed in the 400 block of 16th Street Northeast at about 9:43 Saturday night. She was taken to a hospital where she died.

Just before noon Sunday, 44-year-old Stephanie Lawson, who lives in the same block where Jordan was found, was arrested on suspicion of second-degree murder in connection with Jordan’s death.

Brandon Andrews Arrested in Shooting Death of Leonard Bigelow

Brandon M. Andrews, a 29-year-old Northwest DC man, was arrested Saturday afternoon in connection with the late Friday night shooting death of Leonard Bigelow in Northeast D.C.

Authorities said Bigelow, 43, was killed in a domestic fight.

Emerald St NE Shooting Victim ID'ed as Leonard Bigelow

MPD has identified the victim of a homicide in Northeast DC late Friday night as 43-year-old Leonard Bigelow.

A release from MPD states the Bigelow was found suffering from a gunshot wound at about 10:43 p.m Friday night. He was taken to a local hospital where he died just before midnight.

Early Reports of an Overnight Homicide in NE DC

A neighbor emailed Homicide Watch saying that a man was shot on Emerald Street NE around midnight. The shooting occurred on the sidewalk, she said.

Substantial Probability” in Case Against James Fields, Rules Leibovitz

Judge Lynn Leibovitz today found substantial probability in the case against James Fields, accused of fatally shooting Christopher Freeman in Southeast DC on August 5.

Not Guilty” Plea in Death of Boyfriend During Fight

Patricia Cave pleaded “not guilty” today to a charge that she fatally stabbed her boyfriend during a fight.

Cave, who turned 50 this month, was indicted by the Grand Jury on a voluntary manslaughter charge in the case. She was arrested on June 2 on suspicion of second-degree murder.

Motley Hesitatingly Sentences Timothy Foreman and Carl Purvis to 13 Years Incarceration

It would have been a first-degree murder case, except that the victim, when he was shot, had a gun and a criminal history. And the defendants, both handicapped, were older than your average murder suspect.

Those facts before a jury might not have led to acquittal, but they would likely have led a jury to find a much lesser crime than first-degree murder; a crime like manslaughter, Prosecutor Todd Gee said today, explaining the government’s plea agreement with Timothy Foreman and Carl Purvis.

Foreman and Purvis appeared separately before Judge Thomas Motley today for sentencing. Not on murder, but on manslaughter. Their plea agreements with the government outlined a period of incarceration of nine to thirteen years. But first Gee had to convince Motley that even 13 years was a significant enough period of time to compensate for fatally shooting Gregory Joyner.
