No Indictments Yet in Six Murder Cases

Six murder cases were before Judge Thomas Motley Friday morning for felony status conferences and each of them resulted in new status conference dates.

Kwan Kearney and Jeremy Risper are scheduled to reappear on April 1 in the case accusing them of killing Jamal Wilson on Nov. 14, 2010. The two men have not yet been indicted by the grand jury. The government has approximately six more months to file charges against them; by law a person must be indicted within nine months of being presented with a murder charge.

No Charges Yet in Angel Morse's Death

The man detained on suspicion of killing 13-year-old Angel Morse is likely to remain in custody at least until May 6.

At a felony status conference today, government prosecutors announced that Robert Carter has not yet been indicted on any charges, including murder, in the shooting death of his daughter, Morse, on Oct 29, 2010.

Attorney Wants Search for Latisha Frazier's Body

An attorney for Brian Gaither, suspected of first-degree murder in the death of Latisha Frazier, is seeking to compel authorities to search for Frazier’s body, believed to be in a Richmond landfill.

Eugene Ohm, representing Gaither at a felony status conference Friday morning, said physical evidence contained on Frazier’s remains could determine whether his client be charged with first degree murder or manslaughter.

Javoricle Moore Arrested in 2009 Metro Bus Homicide Case

A nineteen year old Southeast D.C. man was arrested today on suspicion on first degree murder in the 2009 shooting death of George Rawlings. Javoricle Moore is the third suspect arrested in the case.

Rawlings, 21, was shot to death Nov. 11, 2009 at about 11:45 a.m. His body was found “lying on the step of a Metro bus” in the 1300 block of H Street NE, according to MPD’s press release (after the jump).

Terrell Kelly Ordered Held in Death of Kyree Seabook

Terrell Kelly, a 27-year-old Southeast D.C. man, was ordered held without bail this morning in the fatal and violent assault on Kyree Seabook in November 2009.

In finding substantial probability in the case during today’s preliminary hearing, Judge Lynn Leibovitz called the attack on Seabook “brutal and disproportionate.”

Seabook, MPD Homicide Detective Dwayne Partman said at the hearing, was dragged into an alley, beaten, kicked and stabbed after he confronted two men about grabbing a bottle of liquor from someone on the street.

Arrest Made in Fatal 2007 Assault of Demetrius Ormon Dempsey

A Northeast D.C. man was arrested Wednesday on suspicion of second degree murder while armed in the December death of Demetrius Ormon Dempsey. Malik Shabazz, 44, was arrested by members of the Major Case Cold Case Unit and the Capital Area Regional Fugitive Task Force, according to an MPD press release. Dempsey was assaulted in 2007; his death was ruled a homicide in January.

Arrest Made in 2007 Assault with Intent to Kill-Later Ruled Homicide Case

( Washington, DC)-Detectives from the Metropolitan Police Department’s Homicide Branch are investigating a 2007 Assault with Intent to Kill which resulted in a Homicide.

On Saturday, June 30, 2007, at approximately 3:30 am, Sixth District officers responded to an assault in the 200 block of 54th Street, NE. An adult male was located and was transported to a local hospital where he was admitted. The victim remained in hospitals and nursing facilities the remainder of his life.

18-year-old Arrested in June 2010 Killing of Charles Logan

MPD detectives have arrested an 18-year-old D.C. man on suspicion of killing 46-year-old Charles Logan of Hyattsville, Md. in June 2010. Aaron Benton of Northeast, D.C, was arrested Monday and presented with a charge of first degree murder while armed. He is due in court March 28 for a preliminary hearing.

Antwon Holcomb Convicted in Slaying of Anthony Perkins

The U.S. State’s Attorney’s Office today announced the conviction of 21-year-old Antwon Holcomb on first degree murder charges in the death of Anthony Perkins, 29.

District Man Convicted of First Degree Felony Murder While Armed, Killed Victim in December 2009 Robbery

WASHINGTON - Antwon Holcomb, 21, was convicted today by a jury of first degree (felony) murder while armed and other charges in a killing that took place during a robbery in December 2009 in Southeast Washington, U.S. Attorney Ronald C. Machen Jr. announced.

Holcomb, of Washington, D.C., also was convicted of charges of armed robbery, possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime of violence, unlawful possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, and carrying a pistol without a license outside the home. The verdict followed a five-day trial in the Superior Court of the District of Columbia.
