Arrest in NW Triple Shooting, Victim IDed as 13-yo Angel Morse

This news release just came through from Fourth District Metro PD regarding Friday afternoon’s triple shooting in Northwest D.C. The release identifies the deceased victim as 13-year-old Angel Morse. Robert Carter, a 39-year-old Northwest D.C. resident, is in custody for the shooting. He was arrested in Prince George’s County after fleeing the scene in a carjacked Metro Access vehicle. According to the release, he is currently being held in PG County “as a fugitive from justice.”

HOMICIDE CLOSURE IN THE FATAL SHOOTING OF ANGEL MORSE

( Washington , DC )-Detectives from the Metropolitan Police Department’s Homicide Branch have announced an arrest in the fatal shooting of which occurred in the 500 block of Madison Street, NW .

On Friday, October 29, 2010, at approximately 3:45 pm units from the Fourth District responded to the 500 block of Madison Street, NW for the report of a shooting. Upon their arrival, they located three victims suffering from gunshot wounds.  DC Fire and Emergency Medical Services personnel responded and transported two victims to area hospitals with non life threatening injuries. One victim was found to have no signs consistent with life and was pronounced dead on the scene by personnel from the Chief Medical Examiner’s Office.

The decedent is identified as 13-year-old Angel Morse of Northwest, Washington , DC .

At approximately 5:50 pm, an off duty United States Park Police officer, after hearing the lookout broadcasted on WTOP Radio, spotted the vehicle the suspect was driving and was able to provide the direction of travel to on duty officers.  Sixth District officers responded and attempted to stop the fleeing vehicle on Kenilworth Avenue .  The suspect refused to stop and continued fleeing into Maryland where he lost control of the vehicle and collided with a building near the intersection of Kenilworth Avenue and Eastern Ave.   The suspect, 39-year-old Robert Carter of Northwest, Washington , DC is currently being held in Prince George ’s County as a fugitive from justice.

“Although this is a sad situation, it is also a prime example of how we all can work together to make Washington , DC a safer place.  With cooperation from the community, the media, other local law enforcement agencies, and an alert off duty police officer, we were able to bring this case to a swift end without further loss of life.” said Chief Lanier.”

Triple Shooting on Madison St NW

At least one person is dead after a triple shooting in the 500 block of Madison St NW on Friday afternoon. A Metro Police message sent to the Fourth District yahoo listserve stated that the shooting occurred in a residence:

Units are on the scene of a shooting which occurred inside a residence in the 500 blk of Madison St NW. There are 3 victims and members of the Homicide Branch are on the scene investigating. Update to follow…. ”

NBC Washington reports a man was killed in shooting, a woman was shot “multiple times” and is in critical condition and a teen was shot once. The teen’s condition was not reported.

The shooter is believed to have carjacked a Metro Access Vehicle in their getaway, but was found and taken into custody before 6 p.m., reported the Washington Post, TBD, and Prince of Petworth who said the suspect was arrested in PG County.

Video: Police seek help iding men in video, connected with Mujahid Taalibdin shooting

A video from a Shell gas station surveillance camera was released by Metro Police today, with hopes that the public could help identify people seen in that video. Those people are “persons of interest” in the shooting death of Mujahid Taalibdin on Saturday Oct. 10, Metro Police said.

Michael Manuel Moss-Cornish, known to friends as “Tino,” died in a double shooting in the 600 block of Harvard Street. NW on Sunday Oct. 3. Moss-Cornish, 22 years old, lived in Silver Spring, Md. and was an interpreter and waiter at Austin Grill. He spoke Spanish and Portuguese fluently, according to his obituary.

Metro Police released an informational poster, seeking tips and community assistance in closing Moss-Cornish’s case.

According to a Metro press release, Moss-Cornish and another victim, who has not been identified, were found with gunshot wounds by police who were responding to a call reporting gunshots.  Both victims taken to local hospitals. Moss-Cornish was pronounced dead after arriving at the hospital; the second victim was treated and released.

No arrests have been made.

Moss-Cornish moved to Silver Spring about a year ago from Fruitland, Md, where he grew up. He graduated from James M. Bennett High School in 2006. While a student there, he played on the school’s soccer team, according to his obituary.

His mother, Bobbie Ballard, told the Washington Post that the shooting occurred as he left a party near Howard University.

A Facebook memorial page has attracted almost 200 of Moss-Cornish’s friends , many of whom have left messages in remembrance. A funeral was held Oct. 9 in Salisubry, Md.

Two other men were fatally shot in D.C. the same weekend: Angelo Jones, 31, was shot in the 5300 block of Dix Street NE, and Jonathan Johnson, 19, was shot in the 1100 block of First Place NW.

Antonio Valdez Vela, a 22-year-old man from Waldorf, Md., died August 30 after being shot. Vela was found suffering from gunshot wounds by Metro Police responding to a gunshots call at approximately 11:30 p.m. at in the 4400 block of F Street, D.C. Metro Police said. He was pronounced dead at a local hospital.

On Sept. 24 DeAngelo Jose Garner, a 25-year-old man from District Heights, Md., was arrested and charged with first degree murder for Vela’s death (2010 CF1 018020 United States Vs. GARNER, DEANGELO). Garner is currently (10-20-10) in custody at the Central Detention Facility.

He is expected in court again Oct. 21 at 9:30 a.m. for a preliminary hearing. Garner is represented by court appointed attorney, Justin Okezie.

Garner was arrested the same day as two other murder suspects wanted by Metro PD. Marlon Williams was arrested for the death Min Soo Kang and Damon Antonio Sams was arrested for Ashley McRae’s death.

Arrest in Ashley McRae Homicide

Reader Kaai gave an excellent heads up this morning that an arrest has been made in the shooting death of 21-year-old Columbia Heights woman Ashley McRae.

Antonio Sams of Southeast has been arrested and charged with 2nd degree murder. God is Good. She was such a sweet girl. I hope he never sees sun light again…. RIP Moma,” wrote Kaai.

In a press release, Metro Police said 22-year-old Damon Antonio Sams of Southeast, DC was arrested just before 1 p.m. Friday, Sept. 24 and charged with second degree murder while armed for McRae’s death.

In D.C. Superior Court records, a misdemeanor case against Damon A. Sams is currently open. That suspect was charged July 10, 2010 with threats to do bodily harm. On Thursday the prosecution  filed a motion for continuance of the trial date. Damon A. Sams is being represented in that case by Attorney Cherlyn Freeman-Watkins of the Law Office of C. Freeman-Watkins. We can’t be certain that this is the same suspect as Damon Antonio Sams but will follow up.

A memorial service for McRae is planned for Tuesday, September 28, 2010 at 10 a.m. at Walker Memorial Baptist Church 2020 13th st N.W, according to a Facebook memorial post.

Metro Police announced Sams’ arrest at the same time as two unrelated homicide case arrests: Marlon Williams of Southeast, DC for the shooting death of Min Soo Kang on the 3500 block of Croffut Place, SE and 24-year-old DeAngelo Jose Garner of District Heights, Md. for the shooting death of 22-year-old Antonio Valdez Vela of Waldorf, Md. on the 4400 block of F Street, SE.

21-year-old Columbia Heights woman shot to death in SE D.C.

Twenty-one year old Ashley McCrae died Saturday Sept. 18 at George Washington University Hospital after being found shot in a vehicle in Southeast D.C. early Saturday morning, Metro Police are reporting.

The Washington Post identified the woman as Ashley McRae, a DeVry University student. MyFoxDC is reporting that Metro Police are searching for a person of interest in McCrae’s death. According to the report, McRae “was last seen by her sister leaving the Ibiza nightclub on First Street in Northeast with a man she’s known for about a month or two.” It is not clear if that man is the person considered of interest to the police.

Ramona Gray, suspect in stabbing death of Shemese Grant, expected in court Friday

Ramona M. Gray, charged with the stabbing death of Shemese Grant, is expected in court tomorrow, Sept. 17, at 9:30 a.m. for a preliminary hearing.

Gray, a 30-year-old woman from District Heights, MD., was arrested Sept. 1 by the Capitol Area Regional Fugitive Task Force on suspicion of stabbing to death 31-year-old Shemese Grant, also known as “Tink,” of Southeast D.C. the day before.

Grant’s body was found when “officers of the Sixth District responded to the 1700 block of Good Hope Road, SE for the report of a stabbing,” said Metro Police. “Upon arriving, they located a victim suffering from stab wounds. DC Fire and Emergency Medical Services personnel transported the victim to an area hospital where she was subsequently pronounced dead.”

Grant was buried Sept. 10 at the Fort Lincoln Cemetary.

She had a good sense of humor and a lovely smile. A smile that would light up the room. tink we love u and u will always be remember but never forgotten,” a friend wrote on Grant’s online obituary.

Gray is being held without bail and is represented by defense attorney Premal Dharia, according to D.C. Superior Court. Gray is charged with first-degree murder and assault with intent to kill.
