Calvin Shaw Arrested on Murder 1 Charge in Fatal July 4 Shooting

A 22-year-old Laurel, Md. man was arrested Sunday on suspicion of first-degree murder while armed in connection with a Fourth of July shooting that left 19-year-old Crevantai Key dead.

The suspect, Calvin Shaw, will likely be presented with the charge Monday at DC Superior Court.

The shooting wounded three people, in addition to killing Key.

Deadly Night in the District Brings Week’s Homicide Toll to 5

Three separate incidents left three men dead and three others injured across three quadrants of DC Saturday night, making this the deadliest week in the District this year.

The violence began with a double stabbing on Ames Street in Northeast DC at about 9:45 p.m., which left one man dead.

Shooting Near Shaw Metro Kills One Man

Update: This story has been updated to include information from MPD that that victim is 30-year-old Michael Edward Jones.

A double shooting near 7th and R Street NW — about a block from the Shaw Metro stop — left one man dead Saturday night, NBC Washington, WJLA and WUSA report. The shooting happened around 11:30 p.m.

MPD reports that two people were arrested shortly after the shooting but has not identified the victim or either suspect.

Julius Barnett Ellington was killed in a shooting on Morton Street Northwest early Thursday morning. He was 35.

Alexander Gomez-Enamorado postponed his preliminary hearing Friday in order to have more time to consider a plea offer from prosecutors. He is suspected of first-degree murder in the stabbing death of Miguel Angel Ventura in Nov. 2010.

Suspect in Downtown Restaurant Stabbing Considers Plea Offer

A man suspected in a violent stabbing at a downtown restaurant postponed his preliminary hearing Friday in order to have more time to consider a plea offer from prosecutors.

Alexander Gomez-Enamorado is suspected of first-degree murder in the case. Prosecutors say he provided a knife used to fatally stab Miguel Angel Ventura in Nov. 2010. The man police believe wielded the knife is believed to have fled across the US-Mexico border.
