MPD’s Statement on Fatal Brookland Nightclub Stabbing

MPD issued the following statement this afternoon about a fatal stabbing that took place early Sunday morning at a Brookland nightclub.

Comments left on Homicide Watch DC’s earlier reports about the death identify the victim as “James” and “Jimmy.”

Curtis Patterson Pleads “Guilty” to Weapons, Obstruction Charges in Death of Angelo Jones

Curtis Patterson pled guilty last week to illegal possession of a firearm and obstruction of justice in connection with the shooting death of Angelo Jones.

Patterson was charged in Oct. 2011 with seven counts connected to the case, including one count of first-degree murder while armed. His co-defendant, Rickey Pharr, was convicted of first-degree murder on Feb. 29.

Victim in Nightclub Stabbing 35-Year-Old Man, MPD Says

MPD has issued the following statement regarding a fatal stabbing at Library Bar and Grill in Brookland early this morning.

Last night at about 2:30 am (Sunday morning) a 35 year old man was stabbed inside a nightclub in the 3500 block of 12th St., NE.

Week in Review

In brief:

Two trials began this week: Kwan Kearney and Jeremy Risper are suspected in the shooting death of Jamal Wilson in Nov. 2010. A witness testified that Wilson, Kearney and Risper had been friends, but the group had fallen out after Risper and Kearney’s brother Eric testified against another friend in 2009.

Kearney has already been convicted in a separate murder, that of Joseph Alonzo Sharps, Jr.

Raymond Roseburo is on trial for killing 16-year-old Prince Okorie on Nov. 30, 2010.

One Dead in NE DC Double Shooting

Update 12 p.m. NBC Washington and the Washington Post report that the victim of a Friday night shooting in Northeast DC has been identified as 21-year-old Shawn Junior Ray.

A double shooting in Northeast DC late Friday night left one man dead, according to media reports.

Robert Contee, commander of MPD’s Sixth District, said early Saturday morning in a listserv message that a shooting took place in the 4200 Block of Edson Pl. N.E.

“We just shot your man. It ain’t had to go like this.”

A former neighborhood friend of Jamal Wilson, Kwan Kearney, and Jeremy Risper testified for nearly three hours this afternoon against Kearney and Risper who are on trial for first-degree murder while armed.

The friend, 20-year-old Joshua Geter, agreed to testify under a plea bargain. Geter was arrested for first-degree burglary on Nov. 22, 2010, eight days after Wilson was killed in a shooting.

Geter said Kearney’s brother, Eric Kearney, and Joshua Risper were considered “hot” or “snitches” after they testified against another friend in 2009. The Kearneys and Risper stopped coming around the First Street and O Street neighborhood soon after, Geter said.

Guilty” Plea in Death of 47-Year-Old Howard Williams

Lester Wright pleaded guilty today to a charge of second-degree murder while armed in the shooting death of 47-year-old Howard Williams.

Williams was killed in Aug 2011. According to charging documents, Williams, Wright, and Wright’s aunt all lived together in an apartment on 18th Place NE. An argument between Wright and the two others in the house preceded the shooting, a witness told police.
