A shooting just after midnight killed one man, NBC Washington reports:
Officers arrived at the 200 block of Bates Street, NW, and found a man with gunshot wounds. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
MPD hasn’t released the man’s name, and no suspects are in custody, according to NBC and WUSA9.
MPD has identified the man killed Tuesday in a police-involved shooting as as 19-year-old Darius Jamal Murphy from Northeast D.C.
According to the release, members of the narcotics division and the gun recovery unit attempted to stop Murphy at 9:05 p.m. in the 1300 block of Queen Street Northeast. In response, MPD says, Murphy fired a handgun at the officers, wounding one.
The officers returned fire and hit Murphy. Both Murphy and the officer were transported to a hospital for treatment, but Murphy died from his injuries.

Miko Thompson, 24, grew up with Jamal Coates playing sports at the Maria H. Reed Recreational Center from the time he was about 11 years old. But over the past two days, Thompson has been testifying about the shooting that killed 21-year-old Coates in September 2010.
Keir Johnson and Lester Williams are charged with first-degree murder in connection with the 2010 murder of Coates, who was shot and killed while leaving a friend’s funeral in the U Street corridor. Read more
A man was killed and an MPD officer injured in a shootout in Trinidad about 9 o’clock Tuesday night.
Reports NBC Washington:
Members of the department’s Gun Recovery Unit were in the Trinidad neighborhood on an investigation when the shooting occurred, said D.C. Police Chief Cathy Lanier.
The shooter and an officer with the unit exchanged gunfire.
Both were shot, and were transported to a local hospital.

A man died late Monday night after being shot in Southeast DC near Minnesota Avenue and Good Hope Road.
WUSA reports that the man was 26 years old and that he was shot in the chest and abdomen.

Judge Karen Howze ordered Charles Young held Friday in connection with the shooting death of 21-year-old Rokeida Spriggs. Young, 22, remains held pending a preliminary hearing December 17.
Spriggs was found by police on November 22 around 1:00 am on the 4900 Block of G Street Southeast suffering from a gunshot wound. She was transported to a local hospital where she was pronounced dead.

Judge Henry Greene declared a mistrial Monday on the remaining counts against Anthony Hatton, after the jury notified the court that they were deadlocked on the charges.
Jurors sent a note to the clerk Monday morning stating that after more than a week of deliberations solely on Hatton’s case they were unable to reach a verdict. Jurors have been deliberating in the complex multi-co-defendant, multi-charge case since August 20.

Michael Poth, the former Marine, was found guilty Monday of voluntary manslaughter while armed in connection with the April 2012 stabbing death of 23-year-old Philip Bushong, a fellow Marine.
Jurors in the case delivered their verdict around 2:20 p.m. Monday after deliberating for approximately two and a half days.

Claire Rice was arraigned Monday on charges of first-degree premeditated murder while armed and related weapons offenses in connection with the December 2012 shooting death of her 58-year-old cousin, Anthony Garland Rice.
Rice, 65, pleaded innocent to all charges and is held pending a status hearing January 10, 2014.
Police found Anthony Rice on December 17, 2012 around 11:00 a.m. dead and shot in a park on the 3100 block of Fort Lincoln Drive Northeast. An autopsy found he had suffered from gunshot wounds to the head and chest. Four months later his cousin, Claire Rice, was arrested and charged with first-degree murder while armed in Anthony Rice’s death.
