Substantial Probability Found for Herbert Hayes’ Second-Degree Murder Charge

Herbert Hayes was ordered held today at his preliminary hearing for the stabbing death of John Wesley Griffin after Judge Ann O’Regan Keary found substantial probability that Hayes committed the crime of second-degree murder while armed.

Keary’s finding came as a result of a phone call Hayes made to a friend while in custody and because a witness in the case had identified Hayes as the killer by name and appearance.

Suspect in Early Morning Homicide Believed to be Barricaded in Neighborhood

A man died early Wednesday morning after being found shot in the chest in Southeast DC.

A suspect in the case is believed to be barricaded in a home nearby and MPD has closed multiple streets in the area.

This map, from MPD, shows which roads are closed and where police are.

Earlier Wednesday, police described the suspect as a black male with dreadlocks wearing a blue and white shirt.

Brian Dewayne Bloomfield, 26, was killed in Southeast DC Monday night. Police said he was stabbed and shot.

Hae Soon Lim, also known as “June” and “Grace,” was killed in Northeast DC Thursday morning. The owner of Grace Deli, her family believes that she may have been shot in the course of a robbery.

Curtis Patterson was sentenced to 11 1/2 years in prison for obstruction of justice and gun possession in connection with the October 2010 shooting death of Angelo Jones.

Sean Donnelle Hawkins, a 37-year-old Waldorf, MD man was arrested Thursday in connection with the violent death of Antwain Henderson. Henderson, 34, was found dead in a burning car in Prince George’s County on Aug 31, 2011. Police believe he was shot and killed in Northeast D.C. early that same day.

Kwan Kearney was sentenced to 45 years in prison for the shooting death of Jamal Wilson. The sentence, Judge Thomas Motley said, was to be served in addition to the 60 year sentence Kearney was given just months ago for the shooting death of Joseph Alonzo Sharps Jr.

Andre Miles was ordered held at his preliminary hearing for the shooting death of Sandy Greene III after Judge William Jackson found probable cause that Miles committed the crime of second degree murder-while armed.

Ronald Pickett pled guilty to one count of voluntary manslaughter while armed in connection with the shooting death of his fiance, Vanessa McGee. Pickett was due to go to trial Monday on a charge of second-degree murder while armed.

Sean Hawkins Ordered Held in Antwain Henderson Murder Case

Sean Hawkins, 37, was ordered held Friday pending a preliminary hearing in connection with the August 2011 shooting death of Antwain Henderson.

Hawkins was arrested Thursday on the charge of second-degree murder. Hawkins was in custody serving a sentence at the Maryland Correctional Institute - Jessup

According to charging documents in the case, Hawkins provided information, which is mentioned in charging documents, about his involvement in the homicide to police in September. He said that he was present when a co-defendant, identified only as Ozzie,” shot Henderson outside Ozzie’s mother’s house in Northeast DC.

Probable Cause Found in Case Against Andre Miles

Andre Miles was ordered held today at his preliminary hearing for the shooting death of Sandy Greene III after Judge William Jackson found probable cause that Miles committed the crime of second degree murder-while armed.

Kwan Kearney to Serve 105 Years for Week of Deadly Shootings

Biting his lip and appearing, for the first time over the course of his two murder trials, as young as his 21 years, Kwan Kearney was sentenced today to 45 years in prison for the shooting death of Jamal Wilson.

The sentence, Judge Thomas Motley said, was to be served in addition to the 60 year sentence Kearney was given just months ago for the shooting death of Joseph Alonzo Sharps Jr.

He’ll die in jail,” Kearney’s attorney, Gene Johnson, warned the court, while Kearney chewed on his lower lip.
