A man shot in July has died of his injuries; his death was ruled a homicide this week. MPD identified the man as 43 year-old Pernell Lonnie Dawkins of Southeast, Washington, DC. In a press release MPD said Dawkins was shot in the 300 block of Ridge Road, SE at about 2:30 a.m. on July 17. He succumbed to his injuries on March 14.

Dominique Campbell, 41, of Southeast, DC, was killed by MPD officers in Southeast DC. According to reports, he was out walking his dogs late Monday night when he exchanged gunfire with police.

A Grand Jury indictment charges a Trinidad-area group with three murders in five months, including the deaths of Tyrell Fogle, Isaiah Sheffield, and Steven Moore.

Zachary Sims was found innocent of the most serious charges against him, after a DC jury found that there was not sufficient evidence to believe that Sims killed 16-year-old Jamal Bell following a graduation party in June 2010. Sims, 19, had been charged with killing Bell and wounding two others when he fired a gun into a crowd of young people in front of him as they left a party on Georgia Avenue.

Alex Carter, a 31-year-old Northeast DC man, was arrested today on suspicion of second-degree murder while armed in connection with the death of Leroy Studevant. A psychologist who examined Petworth teen Michael Davis in advance of his preliminary hearing on charges that he struck at least three people with a hammer, killing one of them, described the teen as alert, pleasant, and cooperative, but noted that he showed cognitive deficits and would require intense therapy in order to be able to proceed with his case. The psychologist’s report was made public Friday after Judge Robert Morin ruled earlier in the week that the document must be unsealed.
