Two Suspects Arrested in Nov. 2012 Murder of Andre Jackson

Officers arrested two men Tuesday in connection with the Nov. 2012 shooting death of Andre Jackson.

Capital Area Fugitive Task Force officers arrested 23 year-old Byron Akeem Dunn at 10:15 a.m. Tuesday. Officers arrested another man, 22 year-old Marquette Tibbs, at 7:50 p.m. that day, on suspicion of first-degree murder while armed.

Cedric Spicer Held in NW DC Nightclub Shooting Death

A man accused in a a fatal nightclub shooting in Northwest DC has been ordered held pending a preliminary hearing in his case.

Cedric Spicer appeared in court Monday on a charge of first-degree murder. Police say he shot and killed Joseph Hardin near a nightclub on the 1900 block of 9th Street, NW. According to charging documents in the case, witnesses told police that the two men were inside the club when they began arguing.

Brandon Andrews Guilty of Second-Degree Murder in Leonard Bigelow’s Death

A jury found Brandon Andrews guilty of second-degree murder Monday after deliberating for just three hours.

Andrews was convicted of fatally shooting Leonard Bigelow in Aug. 2011. Jurors also found him guilty of several related weapons and threats charges, including carrying a pistol without a license.

Andrews testified Thursday that he was angry with Bigelow’s sister for refusing to speak with him after their 10-month relationship had ended. He said he was homeless and broke at the time of the shooting. Read more

Jerome Lewis Ordered Held in Fire that Killed Four-Year-Old Samauri Jenkins

Jerome Calvary Lewis was ordered held Saturday on suspicion of causing a fatal fire that killed a 4-year-old child.

Lewis, 46, is suspected of second-degree murder in connection with the case.

According to charging documents, firefighters found the child, Samauri Jenkins, unconscious in a second floor bedroom in the home on Feb. 17. Fire authorities believe that the fire spread from a basement apartment upward. The D.C. Fire Department is still determining the cause of the fire.

Man Killed in Southwest Washington Sunday Identified as Tyrone Joyner

Tyrone Joyner, 22, was killed Sunday evening in a shooting Southwest DC, MPD said Monday morning.

The shooting took place at 6:30 p.m. at the 1400 block of Canal St. S.W., near Nationals Park, police say.

Joyner was transported to a local hospital, where he died of his injuries.

It’s the third homicide in D.C. to be reported over the weekend.

Week in Review

In brief:

Jerome Calvary Lewis, 46, was arrested on suspicion of second-degree murder in the death of four-year-old Samauri Jenkins, who died in a house fire in Southeast D.C. Lewis survived the same fire.

Joseph Hardin, 30, of Alexandria, VA, was shot to death on 9th Street Northwest around 1:16 a.m. Saturday. Police arrested Cedric Spicer, 24, of Northwest D.C., the same night.

Damon Luke Brown, 49, died in a separate Saturday night shooting. Brown was killed on Livingston Street Southeast at approximately 2:53 a.m.

Jurors convicted Irving Harris Johnson on two counts of first-degree murder in the deaths of Domonique Barbour and Jimmie Lee Simmons III.

A mental health review found Jonathan Fullard competent to stand trial Wednesday in the death of 20-month old Keyontae Osbia Moore. Fullard pleaded guilty to second-degree murder in connection with Moore’s death in October, but is considering withdrawing the plea.

Jurors deadlocked Wednesday in the first-degree murder case against Marlon Williams, and Judge Lynn Leibovitz declared a mistrial on behalf of Judge Russell Canan, who was unavailable. Prosecutors plan to try the case again in July.

Judge Stuart Nash found probable cause to hold David Jamal Wilson Wednesday in connection with the death of Howard Venable Jr. in February.

Albrecht Muth will not be able to act as his own attorney in his trial scheduled for March. Judge Canan ruled Thursday that Muth’s ongoing refusal to eat has left him too feeble to represent himself in the case. Muth is accused of killing his wife, Viola Drath, in 2011.

A jury began deliberating Friday afternoon in the first-degree murder case against Brandon Andrews.

Livingston Terrace SE Shooting Kills Man

A shooting in the 300 block of Livingston Terrace Southeast killed a man from Ashburn, Va., early Saturday morning.

Police found Damon Luke Brown, 49, unconscious and suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. He was pronounced dead at the scene of the shooting.

Brown is one of two men killed by gunfire overnight. Joseph Hardin, 30, died just over an hour earlier on 9th Street Northwest.

NW DC Shooting Kills Man; Suspect in Custody

A shooting in the 1900 block of 9th Street Northwest killed a man early Saturday morning.

Police found Joseph Hardin, 30, of Alexandria, Va., unconscious and suffering from multiple gunshot wounds at 1:16 a.m. and declared dead at the scene.

Cedric Spicer, 24, of Northwest D.C., was arrested on site by nearby police officers, MPD said. Read more
