A 21-year-old Southeast DC man was killed in a shooting on Call Place SE early Tuesday morning, MPD said in a press release.
The victim was identified as Lamar Marquel Walker.

Documents charging Gary Montgomery with fatally stabbing JaParker Deoni Jones leave open the possibility that Jones could have been the subject of a robbery attempt.
Two witnesses who were stopped at a red light close to the bus stop where Jones was killed told police that Jones was struck in the face and her purse grabbed by the perpetrator. When one of the witnesses confronted the man, he dropped the purse and ran. One of the witnesses gave pursuit and aprehended him, but was distracted when the other witness yelled for help, giving the man the opportunity to escape.

A 29-year-old Maryland man was arrested Monday on suspicion of second-degree murder while armed in connection with the shooting death Jhonte Coleman, MPD said Monday afternoon.
The suspect, Brandon Terry, has not yet been presented with the charge, according to court records.
Coleman, 34, was killed outside of Heritage India on Connecticut Avenue, NW on Nov. 27, 2011 during a fight that injured six people.

A vigil Tuesday for JaParker Deoni Jones drew more than 200 people; later in the week MPD announced that 55-year-old Gary Niles Montgomery was arrested on suspicion of second-degree murder while armed in connection with Jones’ death.
Judge Russell Canan ruled that Albrecht Muth is currently mentally and physically incapable of representing himself against charges involving the death of 91-year-old Georgetown socialite Viola Herms Drath. Muth is on a hunger strike and was hospitalized during the week.
Court documents showed that Terrell Brent, a 20-year-old DC man accused of fatally shooting a close friend in a game of Russian Roulette, pleaded guilty to involuntary manslaughter in connection with the case.
Kwan Kearney was sentenced to 60 years in prison for a double shooting, which killed teen Joseph Alonzo Sharps Jr. and wounded one other teen. Kearney was convicted of the first-degree murder charge in December.
UPDATE 2:45 p.m.: The Washington Post reports that the death is believed to be a suicide.
A man found shot on the National Mall near the Lincoln Memorial Sunday morning has died of his injuries, and MPD is investigating the case, NBC Washington and WTOP report.
It’s not yet clear whether the case is considered a homicide.

Gary Montgomery was ordered held this morning pending a preliminary hearing on a charge that he fatally stabbed transgender woman JaParker Deoni Jones in the face at a Northeast DC bus stop last week.
A preliminary hearing date was set for Feb. 23 with Judge Robert Morin.

MPD reports that a 55-year-old Northeast DC man has been arrested in connection with the stabbing death of JaParker Deoni Jones.
Gary Niles Montgomery is suspected of second degree murder while armed, MPD said.

Speaking Friday for the first time about the murder charge against him, and that he was convicted of, Kwan Kearney told Judge Robert Richter that he was innocent.
“My condolences to the family,” Kearney said at sentencing, turning slightly to look over his shoulder and glance at the packed courtroom. “But you all got the wrong man. I ain’t never killed a man in my life.”
Kearney did not take the stand during his week long trial in December. A jury found him guilty of first degree murder while armed with aggravating circumstances in the death of Joseph Alonzo Sharps Jr. and assault with intent to kill with regard to the shooting of Sharp’s friend DeāOnte Bilbro.

A 20-year-old DC man accused of fatally shooting a close friend in a game of Russian Roulette has pleaded guilty to involuntary manslaughter in connection with the case.
Terrell Brent entered the plea last week. The maximum penalty for involuntary manslaughter is 30 years in prison, but prison time is not mandatory for the charge. Brent could be sentenced under the Youth Act.
