Gaither, Sweet, Plead Innocent in Latisha Frazier Murder; Trial Set for Nov. 2012

Brian Gaither and Johnnie Sweet each pleaded innocent today to first degree and felony murder and kidnapping in the death of Latisha Frazier in Aug. 2010.

If convicted, they face life sentences without the possibility of parole. Prosecutor Chris Kavanaugh said there are no plea discussions in the cases.

Henry Diaz-Antunuez Arrested in July Shooting Death of David Eduardo Gonzalez

Henry Diaz-Antunuez, 19, was arrested Wednesday on suspicion of second degree murder while armed in connection with the shooting death of David Eduardo Gonzalez on July 19.

Both men were from northwest DC; the shooting occurred in the 900 block of Randolph Street NW.

Brian Gaither, Johnnie Sweet Indicted on First Degree Murder in Death of Latisha Frazier

Brian Gaither and Johnnie Sweet have been indicted on charges related to the death of 18-year-old Latisha Frazier, the US Attorney’s Office announced this afternoon.

Gaither, 23, and Sweet, 18, are due in court tomorrow.

The indictment charges each man with first degree felony murder, first degree premeditated murder, and “aggravating circumstances.” Those circumstances are that Frazier’s death was “especially heinous, atrocious, and cruel” and that it was also “committed during the course of a kidnapping.”

Katrell Henry Convicted in 2010 Shooting of Laroy Bryant

District Man Convicted of Voluntary Manslaughter, Other Charges In 2010 Slaying in Southeast Washington - Shooting Followed a Confrontation in a Parking Lot

WASHINGTON - Katrell Henry, 37, of Washington, D.C., was convicted by a jury today of charges stemming from the slaying last year of a man in Southeast Washington, U.S. Attorney Ronald C. Machen Jr. announced.

Henry was convicted of voluntary manslaughter while armed and three related firearms offenses. The verdict followed a six-day trial. The Honorable Lynn Leibovitz scheduled sentencing for January 5, 2012. Henry faces a maximum prison sentence of 55 years.

James Sandidge, also known as Brian Scott, Held in Shooting Death of Keenan Lee near Howard University Homecoming Weekend

James Sandidge was ordered held today pending a preliminary hearing on suspicion of second-degree murder while armed in the shooting death of Keenan Lee near Howard University during Homecoming weekend.

Sandidge, also known as Brian Deangelo Scott according to court documents, is 22 years old.

MPD Corrects Information in Charging Documents about Ervin Griffen’s Shooting Death

Charging documents in the case against Montez Warren incorrectly state that the victim, Ervin Griffen, was shot in the head, a detective in the case says.

Griffen was instead shot in the neck, said Detective William Covington.

Antonio Jones Held on Suspicion of Murder 2, While Prosecutors Offer Mental Health Evidence

Antonio Jones was ordered held today on suspicion of second degree murder while armed after Judge Thomas Motley found substantial probability that Jones killed Davon Gray in a shooting on Oct. 15.

At a preliminary hearing Tuesday, MPD Homicide Detective Brian Wise told the court that Jones and Gray may have known each other from a Northeast DC neighborhood. The only eye witness listed in the charging documents is an acquaintance of both men, Wise said.

James Sandidge Arrested in Shooting Death of Keenan Lee

A Temple Hills, Md. man has been arrested in connection with the fatal shooting of Keenan Jerel Lee, MPD says.

Lee was killed on Oct. 22 near Howard University. James Deangelo Sandidge, 22, was arrested on suspicion of murder two while armed in connection with the case.

In courts news:

Derek Johnson was ordered held after Judge Robert Richter found “substantial probability” to Johnson killed Jamar Freeman in a stabbing on Oct. 8.

A murder charge against Felicia Jones in the stabbing death of Jodie Ward was reduced to assault until D.C.’s medical examiner determines a cause of death for Ward.

Charging documents in the case against Tarkeyshia R. Brown allege Jawan Parker may have been killed over a drug debt.

Phillip Crooms was ordered held after Judge Lynn Leibovitz found probable cause to believe that Crooms was involved in lighting a fire that contributed to the death of Delonte Butler in Sept. 2010.

Rashad Terrell Slye was arrested on suspicion of killing Domingo Ezirike, a Maryland cab driver. According to charging documents, Ezirike may have been shot over a shorted 75 cents.

Claude Kinney pleaded guilty to first degree murder in the fatal stabbing of Alicia Wheeler, his estranged wife.

Vincent Gray and Delron Atchison were arrested in Orlando. Police believe they shot and killed Demetrius Thompson aboard the W4 Metro bus last week.

Rodney McIntyre was sentenced to 40 years in prison for the sexual assault and murder of his 17-year-old daughter Ebony Franklin, whose body was found in a trash can in Columbia Heights after Thanksgiving weekend last November.

Montez Warren was arrested in the May 13 shooting death of Ervin Lamont Griffin.
